First ultrasound scan at 15 weeks and 5 days ( first pregnancy )

Hi. I had my first appointment yesterday and was told my first scan should be during my 12 week time. I have received a letter which says my first appointment is in September which would leave me at nearly 16 weeks with no scan or checks for baby’s Heath. Is this normal? I am worried as this is my first baby and would like to have a scan and checks done as soon as possible. What do you recommend I do and is this normal?

Hi OP, have you got a contact number for the midwives looking after you? I’d give them a ring. The dating scan should normally be done between 11 and 14 weeks, and if it’s after 14 weeks they won’t be able to do the combined screening (if that’s something you were planning to have) so I’d definitely check they’ve not made a mistake somewhere! Oh dear - sorry you've been given that extra worry! No, that doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like an error but I'm sure you can get it sorted by calling the community midwives. :) x

I was in the same boat as yourself for my first pregnancy, I had my booking appointment at 8 weeks and the midwife was like, oh I am going on holiday so I will get you booked in for your scan. Heard nothing for 4 weeks so got back in touch and she was like, oh it should be coming to you soon ( she had clearly forgotten and popped off on holiday).

I got my appointment letter and it was when I was 15 weeks! Technically I think they say it can be anytime between 11-14 weeks but I ended up going for a private scan at 10 weeks to reassure myself.

You should be able to phone up though and query this, it could be your area has a long waiting list..? Not sure but def phone up!!
