Bleeding at six weeks pregnant - hematoma or miscarriage?

Hi,

Have been bleeding since Wednesday- pink first, then red, then huge bleed Thursday with clots, has been light-moderate since (2-3 pads a day) with very little pain - just a heavy abdomen feeling on Thursday.

But my hcg reading on Wednesday was 16000, so at the higher end of what they would expect for being 6 weeks pregnant (it’s an IVF pregnancy with a 5d FET). I am confused how I could then miscarry the day after??

Looking for anyone with similar experience and outcomes - being scanned on Tuesday and hcg measured again. Our clinic told us not to ‘write it off’ yet but surely the level of bleeding means it’s a miscarriage?
Could it be threatened or a hematoma?
Any insight appreciated.

It could be either to be honest. With my miscarriages within a day it was had to sit on the toilet heavy as I had bled through two night pads in an afternoon.

I'm on various pregnancy after loss threads and there are women on their that have had huge gushing bleeds and they have been hematomas and not miscarriages.

Edit to add with the HCG is the change in values that matters more than the values. I had my HCG measured the night if the heavy bleeding at 17000 16h in the epu they were 8500. They expect doubling in 48h for a healthy pregnancy and halving in 48h post miscarriage

Keep an eye on things and stay occupied until you get to your scan on Tuesday. It could go either way so cautious hope over the next few days x
