First pregnancy - struggling!

Hi! Looking for some reassurance...

I'm currently 7+4 on my first pregnancy. I'm of course very (cautiously) happy to be pregnant, but am really struggling with these first few weeks. I feel so bloated (and fat), and my stomach has been a bit upset the last week or so on top of things - so just feeling a bit gross all in all.

Please tell me it gets better!

I have no advice but offer my sympathies. I'm roughly same gestation as you give or take and honestly, I feel god awful. It's concretely normal, and will get better towards second trimester. You're in the trenches currently. I have non stop nausea for nearly 2 weeks, everything is making me want to throw up even the smell of my house haha! Someone suggested electrolyte sachets which have been quite useful, may be worth keeping in mind if things get bit ropey. Congratulations x

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I remember feeling really bloated throughout first trimester and clothes very quickly didn't fit. That yucky feeling did ease when my bump started to show but there is a kind of adaptation process in getting used to your new body. It does happen though. Hope it gets better for you soon

Thanks both!

@Goldenmimx totally agree, I think there’s an element of getting used to my changing body, but when it’s on top of all the other symptoms, it’s really crappy. But need to shift my mindset as it’s definitely not helping things.

@Birdwordie sorry to hear you’re also having a hard time. It really is tough, and worse when no one really knows you’re going through it, so very much suffering in silence when out and about with friends etc. Hopefully eases up soon for both of us 🙏

Im 23 weeks now! I promise it does get better.

I felt like shit until around 15 weeks and i feel like a brand new woman!
Yes i still feel tired, and now i have new symptoms eg. Hip pain, back pain, heartburn ect.
But god i feel so much better than i did in my first trimester!
I had sickness, nausea, headaches, tiredness, v bad bloating i looked like i was around 6 months when i was 8 weeks😅

Lucindaa · 19/07/2025 23:46

Congrats firstly.

I'm at 12 weeks and struggling since week 7 and still super bloated, feeling ridiculously tired, the smell of coffee makes me gag, heartburn on the 2nd pregnancy. I was hoping the bloating would go but its still there and I look about 20 weeks!

First pregnancy my biggest issue was tiredness

Congratulations! I wouldn’t necessarily say it gets better, but it goes in phases. Some phases are harder than others. It won’t be like this all the time! The second trimester is usually the easiest time.

The really good news is that it isn’t forever, and at the end of it, you get a gorgeous baby to swoon over and it’s all worth it. Hang on in there!

Congratulations OP, it will get better, in the second trimester of both my pregnancies I got how someone could get that pregnant and not realise they were pregnant - no symptoms 😂

Without making it sound too bad… the anxiety starts the moment you get the positive pregnancy test and never ends, as you just worry about your kids in different ways, even into adulthood!
