Started period but possible faint positive - what does this mean?

Hi
I started spotting at 11DPO so decided to take a pregnancy test. I noticed an extremely faint line but thought nothing of it and said I would wait a couple more days. 12DPO comes and my period starts making me think I'm out this month. Just out of curiosity I took another test today at 14DPO as something has just felt 'off'. I got a faint positive but darker than my previous one. What could this mean? I don't want to get my hopes up and I'm confused as my periods are relatively heavy.

Thanks

I've attached a photo here. Sorry it didn't add to the original post.

Is the period you’re on now as heavy as normal? It could be a CP, but keep monitoring with further tests and contact EPU if you get any pains.

Sounds like a chemical pregnancy to me. That's exactly what happened to me. Tested positive, then immediately started a normal period. Tested negative again a week later.

CatchHimDerry · 18/07/2025 20:03

Most likely chemical, I’ve had a lot unfortunately. Keep an eye on it, especially if it gets darker and seek medical advice if so x

Hi, was the period when you were expecting it to be? Has it been different to normal?

I don't want to get your hopes up in case it is a chemical but I had bleeding only slightly lighter than my normal period (post pill so quite light anyway) and tested positive on what I thought was day 3. The bleeding was slightly lighter than normal but exactly when I expected my period. I'm now 13 weeks pregnant.

The only thing you can do is keep testing. If they start to get fainter it's likely a chemical but if they continue to darken over the next week then i would ring the early pregnancy unit and explain the bleeding. They should get you in for a scan to check it's not ectopic. Just a warning on this if you are earlier than 6 weeks they might not find anything as it's too early.

Good luck x

So it could be a couple of things. Implantation bleeding or potentially a chemical pregnancy.

Keep an eye on the bleeding. They usually won’t scan until 6 weeks but get in contact with early pregnancy. Xx

I’d be getting myself off to the doctors for a proper test and blood work.

Hi all. Thank you for all of your advice. I'm currently on holiday so haven't been able to go see my GP as of yet. I took another test today and I'm still getting a faint positive which doesn't seem to have become any darker or lighter. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Here's another where I've just put the brightness down a little.

What does a digital test say? I would say you are pregnant however the fact the lines aren’t darker after a week would make me think possible chemical pregnancy (sorry). How far along should you be? (From date of last period) I would call early pregnancy unit for advice.

NGarra25 · 27/07/2025 11:20

@ThisZanyPinkSquidHi. I did a digital test yesterday which came back pregnant 1-2 weeks. This was on CD10. I had some bleeding which seemed like a period on the 17th July but was slightly lighter than normal. I have uterine fibroids so my periods are usually heavy with clotting. My period before that was 14th June which would put me at 6 weeks. I have a feeling that something may not be right so I'm hoping to book a GP appointment once I get home from my holiday in a couple of days. I've started to feel some pregnancy symptoms like a lot of nausea, dizzy spells and some cramping but this may be related to other things. Thank you for the advice. It is greatly appreciated as this would be my first pregnancy after TTC for almost 2 years so I don't really know what to think!

Not to worry you but this can be an indicator of ectopic pregnancy.

I’d get checked out.

Pregnancy is worrying especially in the beginning when you don’t know what’s happening. Definitely speak to early pregnancy and explain the bleeding and tests they may do HCG bloods and a reassurance scan 🤞🏻

curliegirlie · 27/07/2025 12:42

Hmm, at 6 weeks you should be looking at getting at least 2-3 on a CB digi, as you only need 153miu to trigger that. I got mine at 19dpo. Do book that GP appt as soon as you get back so you can get that EPU referral and work out what’s going on. Good luck!

Springadorable · 27/07/2025 18:54

Yeah I don't think it's looking great for this pregnancy sadly 😢 I'd expect a much stronger positive at this point. Definitely worth seeing your GP when you're back, best of luck
