Increased NT 5.2mm High Risk Pregnancy

Miraclex2 · 18/07/2025 14:13

With the 5.2mm I am high risk for Down Syndrome (1 in 16), Edwards Syndrome (1 in 85) and Pataus Syndrome (1 in 85).

I am booked in next week for Amniocentesis Test to confirm / rule out any abnormalities but we are sick with worry!

Has anyone had a high risk Nuchal Translucency of 5.2mm and had normal outcome and delivered a healthy baby?

Yes. Baby was measured over the threshold (I can't remember the exact number) and we were referred immediately to a larger hospital for the invasive test for genetic testing. I was worried as the test carries a 1 in 100 chance of miscarriage.

Baby turned out fine, no issue, just a fat neck! Bt, I will put a small caveat here: we were scanned literally the day before I turned 15 weeks and I'm pretty sure my dates were further along than the initial dating scan had me at. Meaning, baby was bound to measure big. A day after and they would consider baby too far along to test.

I never had the BT to determine what the percentages they put on Downs etc so can't compare on that, sorry.

Also, I was 40 when baby was conceived and 41 when baby was born so probably carried a higher risk too - all was fine 🙂

Good luck, wishing you a healthy pregnancy

I had this in may this year but ours was 6.5mm. After a lot of research it seems 4-5.5mm usually seem to be ok. Sadly we was not and she had pataus. But your should be ok at 5.2mm. Good luck x

How did u get on? X

Miraclex2 · 25/07/2025 12:54

Was booked in for Amniocentesis yesterday and when we were scanned the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby has significantly decreased (I haven’t leaked) they were unable to do Amniocentesis because of this and offered CVS instead “awaiting results” we didn’t expect to see hardly any fluid surrounding the baby at all so we are even more worried now. Dr’s are saying this is another marker something is wrong. We are so worried !😢💔

Fingers crossed everything is ok keep us updated

CVS results came back normal, baby doesn’t have Down’s, Edward’s or Patau’s. The rest of the results should be available by the end of next week. Now it’s just the low fluid surrounding the baby. I’m back in tomorrow for a scan to check fluid and how baby is❤️

Had my scan today, fluid is still low measuring 2.5cm they done a more in depth scan everything is looking fine apart from Kidneys. They think they can see something on the Kidneys, maybe cysts but are unsure at this point.

I have to be scanned every week until 20 weeks they are unsure what’s causing all of this.

They asked me if I wanted to terminate my pregnancy today but I said NO! I’m happy to wait till 20 weeks to look into the baby more hopefully things resolve🤞❤️

Hey @Miraclex2

How did you get on in the end if you don't mind me asking? Currently going through something similar, high NT of 5.2mm and waiting to have echo and CVS next week. In the scans they've not found any other soft markers and everything else is appearing normal. It's such a difficult thing to go through and my emotions are all over the place and trying to stay positive.❤

Increased NT 5.2mm High Risk Pregnancy
Miraclex2 · 27/01/2026 10:47

Update💔

Initial twin pregnancy :-

12 week scan found one baby didn't make it and the other baby had an increased NT 5.2mm.

CVS results came back normal / clear which ruled out any syndromes.

We still continued to 18 weeks with little to none amniotic fluid and they found 2nd baby's Kidney's both covered in cysts which resulted in 2nd baby passing away - Kidney's were not working - August 2025.

Post Mortem was done on my baby, we found out it was a baby boy, he had Bilateral Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney (MCDK) which is a very serious condition where both kidneys are non-functional which often prevents survival.

They will forever be in our hearts, its been so difficult trying to understand and process what has happened💔.

I hope one day we get our little miracle rainbow baby🌈❤.
