Induction and sweeps 38 weeks

I was hoping to get away with pushing induction closer to due date but due to various risk factors I’ve been booked in for an induction at 38+4. I have a sweep 3 days prior.

Looking for experiences of induction and sweeps this early? I’ve had 5 previous labours, no inductions and all came at 39 weeks.

Feeling quite nervous.

First DC I had a sweep at 37+3 cervix was soft so personally found it painless. Had cramping and spotting after sporadically but didn't do anything.

Induced at 38 weeks, already dilated enough for waters to be broken without any gels etc so it was technically classed as spontaneous labour. In labour for about and hour and a half naturally delivery with no assistance. I do think baby was ready for coming anyways though which is why it all went so smoothly.

Every one's experiences are very different but it was a good one for me!

Good luck

I was induced at 38+0 with dd2 (signs of preeclampsia)

I had a sweep then pessaries (daytime only - Swedish hospital). Took a while to get going - induced Wednesday labour started Friday.

5 hour labour and home 12 hours later. Very fast at the end - 5cm to baby out was less than 30 minutes. Not pushing as the baby fell out into midwife's hands when she was going to assess me for an epidural.

Ive recently been induced which didn't fully take so led to a sweep I was 35+3. Due to preeclampsia severity we had to do it early. Labour went well and she is now 11 days old and thriving. We stayed in hospital for a few days but I think that was mostly because she was a tiny 4lb and I needed to be monitored also. I hope yours goes well too 🩷

I had 2 sweeps one by the midwife in clinic after which I started getting sporadic contractions and one when I went into the mlu but they said I still wasn't fully in labour so did it to try kick-start things (it did the same day thankfully as I was due induction).
It wasn't too painful mainly uncomfortable.
I've not been induced but my sister has multiple times and said it was quite painful so she did have an epidural. I think the contractions are more intense.

I was induced at 36 weeks with twins. Just the pessary it all went smoothly.

Thanks everyone. I’m really nervous about it all but hoping for it to be quick and straightforward.
