Amniotic fluid debris/sludge

Recently had a scan at 18 weeks to check the length of my cervix. Cervix measured okay but they found what they called “sludge” during the scan. Google doesn’t help much as it’s not mega common and not a lot has been written about it.
Has anyone else had an experience with this? Did it clear up? Did you need antibiotics or extra scans throughout the rest of your pregnancy?

Mega stressful when they don’t tell you much at appointments other than we will check again at your 20 week scan.

Thanks 🩷

Wondering how you’ve got on with this or did it clear up? I’ve just had my 20 week scan and second cervical length scan and they also found sludge but didn’t tell me that it’s an indication of inflammation or infection. I googled it when I got home and have terrified myself as I’ve had a previous loss at 21 weeks due to an infection. I’ve been scheduled another scan in 2 weeks rather than the 4 it was supposed to be. Cervix length is ok but has gone slightly shorter.

Hi, can I ask how you're both doing now? I've just been told I have this at a scan to check cervical length, I've been put in 2 different antibiotics. I'm 17 weeks and I had a previous loss at 19 weeks so I'm very anxious 😞 hope all is ok with you both? x

Hi! My pregnancy has been okay so far after being told about the “sludge”. Currently 30 weeks, they just said to keep an eye out for anything that might be an infection like a UTI or even a temperature and if so they’d give me antibiotics. Luckily never presented with any infection symptoms 🤞🏼
@Pennyrosessorry to hear about your previous loss, and I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry too much about the sludge or cervical length scan. They dump all this on you but then leave you too it and I know it’s horrible. There doesn’t seem to be a lot online regarding the sludge. Since finding mine I’ve never been offered another scan, but every midwife appt I’ve been too baby has been perfectly fine size wise and heartbeat 💗

@Dori92 thankyou so much for replying and being so reassuring ☺️ I'm so glad everything is going well for you! 💓 I think I just need to get past the big milestones like 20 week scan, then 24 weeks etc. This is just such an anxious time after my previous loss, but it's very reassuring to hear all has turned out well with you! x
