Choroid Plexus Cysts - 21 week scan

Hi, can anyone offer me any advise help? went for my 21 week detailed scan on Friday, everything was going fine unitil the end when the sonographer said have you heard of soft markers, she said baby had two choroid plexus cysts one either side of the brain, she said cause I was over 36 ( im 38 ) they had to tell me as it is a link to downs syndrome, at this point I went in to shock she said I needed to speak to a midwife and took me to a counseling room. The midwife said the link is with Edwards Syndrome which is much much worse than DS my risk was 1/60 because of my age, I told her I had private NF scan and bloodtests and showed her my results which were 1/50000 for Edwards and 1/27000 for DS she then said she could recalculate my risk as 1/5555 for edwards and 1/20000 for DS. Because my risk was very low and there was only one soft marker I didnt need to do anything else and not to worry. Of course I am worried sick she told me cause there is only one soft marker and everything else on scan was fine combined with blood tests my risk was very very low, the cysts on there own she says are insignificant and almost always dissapear by 26 weeks and doesnt matter if they dont as 1% of adults have them and 2% of babies. I am contemplating an amnio as I cant stop worrying and cant cope with the thought of DS / Edwards, I already have high blood pressure so dont need all the extra worry. Many thanks for taking time to read this

Something very similar happened to my SIL. She was told at her 20 week scan that they could see a choroid plexus cyst in my nephews brain, no other soft markers. When this happened I discussed it with a consultant at the hospital I was working at and she told me that if only cysts were present on scan then they did not take further action. If however they were accompanied by another soft marker (i.e shield shape chest, rocker bottom feet) then they would suggest further investigations. I'm happy to say that my nephew is fine.
there are no other soft markers which would have been evident on your scan so that is a positive thing. Your tests have shown that your risk factors are very low which again is a good thing. As for an amnio, unfortunately only you can decide if it is the right route for you.

I had no previous tests and got told the baby had 2 soft markers and the baby could have Edward's Syndrome. I was 32/3 at the time. I refused any further tests but agreed to scans.

I had my baby 10 days early and he is NT.

DD1 had choroid plexus cysts at 20wk scan (gone by repeat scan but then they do disappear) no other markers - she is now a healthy 13yr old in the top set for everything
I think your NF scan results are a much more reliable test than the presence of choroid plexus cysts - especially as you have no other markers. Why not talk to your own midwife/gp - perhaps they can put your mind at rest a little - I know how hard it is to stop worrying though.
