Acupuncture recommendation SE/central London?

Hello, I've seen acupuncture recommended on MN for sickness - has anyone used a practitioner in Southwark or central London? Or do you know if there's some sort of national register for acupuncturists/some sort of qualification I should look for?

I'm 9 weeks and nauseous every single waking moment. This baby is so longed for but I had no idea it would be this hard. Work is a nightmare as half my brain is always busy trying to overcome the constant seasick feeling, and I've had to cancel almost every other aspect of my life. It's grim. I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks

You poor thing!

I went to a place called the London Acupuncture Centre on Harley St. It was recommended by a friend and some of the practitioners specialise in pregnancy. I have to say that although I do think acupuncture can be an effective treatment for all sorts of things, my practitioner treated my sickness (among other things) in the early part of my pregnancy and personally I didn't find it made any difference. I did find it very relaxing though. Hopefully you'll have more luck.

Years ago I went to a place in Waterloo called the Traditional Acupuncture Centre. It wasn't pregnancy related but they were very good. Here's the link:

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks both of you, I'll investigate (and, to be honest, go with whichever can fit me in first). I appreciate what you're saying, Aubergenie (great name btw) but I believe it's the only thing left to try - I'm eating little & often, napping when I can (not v practical when at work but I'm doing my best), drinking ginger tea etc. Husband tells me I should 'try to be less stressed'. I'm sure he's right but that sort of advice does give me the slap-itch.

I do find a small brandy helps a bit but there aren't many of those in 1-2 units a week.

For a while it was only lasting until 6pm or so and I could just about cope with that, but now - it just saps the joy out of everything.

Thank you for the recommendations
Mx

Sounds grim. It's definitely worth a try Mavis. I was having treatment for my anxiety and lack of sleep (pregnant very soon after miscarriage) and generally supporting me in early pregnancy rather than focussing specifically on the sickness which may be why it didn't work for me. If they are working specifically on that it may be more helpful.

Have you tried the natal hypnotherapy CDs for morning sickness? I believe they are supposed to be quite good.

Good luck!

I hadn't even heard of the natal hypnotherapy CDs - have now ordered the morning sickness one, thank you. And I've an appt at the Traditional Acupuncture Centre tomorrow evening, so hopefully one/both will help, especially as I think I'm losing the sympathy of my boss (had to leave work early again today).

I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage. Hope all's now going well.

Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. And thanks - I'm 22 weeks now and things are good this time round. Bubs is kicking away as I type!

Thanks again for your help: didn't get on too well with the acupuncture (felt terrible afterwards, I think that's not unheard of but it's really put me off) but the hypnotherapy cd is great, and I've booked a hypnotherapy appt for later this week. And if it doesn't work out I can always go back and try the acupuncture again.
