Echogenic Kidneys/amnio/ADPKD Experiences

Looking to see if anyone has any experiences to share whilst in the most horrible wait for amniocentesis results…

A summary of our story (long, sorry… I’ve tried to shorten as much as possible):

Had a very straight forward pregnancy (2nd pregnancy - baby boy, 1st was also straight forward and healthy 3yo at home) up until our 20 week scan which seemed all fine until just as sonographer was wrapping up she mentioned she had noticed the kidneys appeared ‘bright’. Everything else looked normal and referred to consultant with the expectation that they may be happy with images, or most likely rescan and see no issue.

Skip forward 2 weeks (now 23weeks exactly) and at the consultant appt she rescanned and agreed the kidneys were echogenic and also slightly enlarged. Functioning normally, bladder visualised as working and amniotic fluid levels normal. Abdominal circumference and head circumference on the higher centiles but within normal (first baby was also similar in terms of measurements). No other abnormalities but the consultant emphasised to us that the likelihood of this being a ‘normal’ finding were very slim and offered amniocentesis to rule out various things (her main concern, from what we can gather, is ADPKD), and there were conversations about possible outcomes leading to TFMR discussions.

Myself and DH also both referred for kidney scans and testing - I had my scan 2 days later and all normal and waiting for DH’s appt but absolutely no history of kidney issues in either family.

First set of amnio results (for T13, 18 and 21) all negative and now in the 1-2 week wait for the full screening.

It all feels like a minefield with so many possible outcomes and I know we just have to wait for the results so trying to go day by day but if anyone has an experiences - positive or negative - I’d really love to hear them. I find information the most helpful means of calming my mind whilst waiting.

thanks so much

Sorry OP I don't have any advice but sorry you're going through this and wishing you all the best.

My 20 week scan showed echogenic bowel for one of my twins but I was advised an amino wasn't necessary. I understand this is different from kidney though. I remember how stressed I was but everything was fine, hoping your outcome is just as good

Thank you @Mydadsbirthday - I was really hoping that by the 23 week scan the brightness would have settled. We have another scan in a week so keeping everything crossed that there’ll be some improvement.
