UCLH referral not accepted

Hi

i submitted a self referral form for UCLH maternity a week ago and just had an email saying they cannot accept it due to a high volume of referrals. Has anyone been in this situation and been able to still be accepted?

ive had friends with horror stories at the hospitals near us (whipps and Homerton) and as I work centrally, UCLH makes the most sense.

many thanks

Hey I just wanted to jump on here and let you know this happened to me too! Just received the email.

Are you in the catchment area? I know some hospitals only accept referrals from the relevant boroughs that are in their commissioning group?

I think you can self refer to UCLH from anywhere. My friend self referred to UCLH from Hackney.

@1989Frog I gave birth at Homerton in 2022. The standard of care for the birth was excellent, like, excellent. But, in the lead up I barely saw the same midwife twice and didn't have a great experience every time, but overall I'm happy to go there again given UCLH said no.

Thanks for relying - although frustrating, it’s always nice to know it’s not just me 😅

Im similar to you - not in catchment area but many of my friends had self referred and recommended UCLH.

that’s really good to hear about Homerton as that’s looking like where I’ll have to go now! Thanks again!

They’re no longer accepting out of catchment referrals for standard of care treatment. The hospital over performs and is no longer paid for additional activity. Thanks to government block contracts there is no incentive to do it.

Oh wow! Thanks for that insight

Where can I find out the catchment area? Do you know if it’s just for non complicated pregnancies, or would my referred be accepted if I need to be monitored for thyroid disease?

I was also refused self-referral to C&W due to increased demand. I’m not in their catchment area but it’s one of the closest hospital and most convenient in terms of work. Did anyone appeal and got accepted?

Also interested to know if anyone has appealed?
