I frequently get quite bad cramping pains in my belly which do feel like period pains and i think right woo hoo things are going to get started but then it turns out to be nothing... or is just trapped wind (you really wanted to know that)
Just wondered if anyone else gets these pains or if i should perhaps speak to my midwife incase its a sign that something is wrong. Their definatley not braxton hicks but im not sure what they are and i feel like a fool now for the number of times i have called my mum to inform her that "i think im in labour" any sujestions? charlotte x

I am only halfway through this pregnancy but I have been preg twice before - how do you know that these are not braxton hicks Charlotte?

Period type pain is how I would describe contractions (just x10!!!) - but I had so many false starts with my last pregnancy I found the last three weeks a nightmare (I was on double alert as I had my show early).

If you are worried you should consult your midwife - don't leave anything to chance - Good luck

thanks... My braxton hicks are totally text book... just a tightening of my stomache and a sorta tight feeling a suppose.
I feel stupid as i have had a baby before but still dont know if im going into labour or not. Think i will give the midwife a call and just express my concerns. I would hate for anything to be wring and for me not to have done anything aout it. thankyou again. charlotte x

I've had a grim week with this. Felt really crampy and sore most of the day yesterday, then lots of sore tightenings overnight, better for most of today, not great again now. It's rubbish as I keep wondering if it might be the start and then it stops. It's flipping sore too.

I had the same thing all day one Friday. I thought it was just strong BH, and like you, I'd already had a baby!

DD2 was born Saturday morning a little after 10AM.

I'd check with the midwife.

I'm 34 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy and am getting cramping pains quite a lot now. I also get the pain free, tightening, BHs too, but I think these cramping pains are just stronger versions, with the uterus preparing more in ernest as labour approaches. I remember the same with my first. If the crampings are irregular and tail-off like the BHs, I wouldn't worry too much, especially if you don't have any other symptoms yet. My midwife has talked about "irritable uterus", for which a nice warm bath, relaxation and a couple of paracetamol can do the trick. Perhaps you are doing too much and need to take it easy. Do check it out with your midwife, though. HTH and good luck!

I get both painless BH and very painful period type cramps and having had them monitored the midwives have confirmed that yes they are proper contractions but are not productive (ie they don't cause dilation) so they don't count. But yes do get them checked out.

Oh and don't worry about calling the midwives too often, they would rather monitor you once a week than find you've delivered at home on your own before 37 weeks!

I had quite bad cramps off and on for 3 days (more 'on' the later it was in those 3 days) and after the third day, I was hip-rocking them off, and (lots of trips to the loo also helped - I also thought trapped wind) when I got one of them on day 3 my brain just said to me 'get to the hospital!'. When I got there I was 6 cms dilated!

And yes, this was second too.

Just to mirror what other posters say and don't be afraid to call midwife.

Ooooh, I could have written this myself Charlotte! Went to bed last night, willing the contractions to start. 2.24am and I thought here we go! I had the cramping pains in my bump that were definately not BH, I never had them the first time but have done this time and they weren't painful, just uncomfortable. Last night, they were definately painful. They lasted about 10 minutes and came and went every 25-30 minutes. Needless to say, I hardly slept at all last night!

This morning when I woke up, nothing. Was most upset as really thought it was the real thing. Instead though I have had lower backache all day and am feeling really uncomfortable. My heartburn, which I had been rid of for almost 2 weeks has returned and DS has slowed down quite a lot, but not enough that I am concerned IYSWIM?

Told DH today that I don't think it will be long now, but knowing my luck DS will be late as DD was!

I have a funny feeling that I will go into labour in the middle of the night so am expecting to see some action tonight, whether they be the real thing or just as they were yesterday. I've decided I am going to ring the mw tonight though if it happens again just to be on the safe side.

I think i will try and speak to the midwife tomorrow. I dnt like calling the hospital midwifes... they can be a bit rude when you get there and ur just over reacting. they always make me feel stupid and a bit of a burdon. My midwife is nice tho... not sure if she'll be around tomorrow tho as its a bank holiday but its worth a try.
if she isnt then i spose i'll have to swallow my pride and call the hosp. thanks for the advice tho. Glad i asked now. charlotte x
