Slow rising hcg

Hey all. So I had an early pregnancy loss on 11th may (test lines lighter before bleeding confirmed with hcg drop after this) then no period and found out I was pregnant again was to report to hospital in first instance due to previous losses and reoccurring miscarriage referral so hcg monitored from early first one done 23rd June 21ml second one a week later 30june 48 next one 2 days later 71 so another today expecting to have went down as have been bleeding on and off for over a week too but went up to 95ml. Had a scan but as expected nothing to see at this point no idea how far on I may even be but because of the slow rise suspected ectopic, hospital gave 2 choices wait and see for another week or have the injection to dissolve the pregnancy before it brings up any further problem or pain. I chose to wait couldn’t live with myself if everything could have been ok and I done that. Scan also didn’t see any reason for concern of ectopic other than the slow rising hcg. So I guess my questions are has anyone else experienced this and come out the other side with a healthy baby? Debating with myself if I have made the correct choice. No pain in stomach or shoulder. Any advice or experiences welcome, still getting severe morning sickness too.

Hey, sadly no mine was ectopic and after weeks and weeks of back and forth I had the injection. So sorry you’re going through this x

Ahhh so sorry to hear that you experienced this too. I have been pregnant 12 times and never had to go through all this everything has always been either ok or not ok, so expecting not a good prognosis with this but I would always question from this point if I took the injection without knowing for sure did I do the right thing so deciding to wait it out but the stress of not knowing whilst still having symptoms is frustrating and confusing 😩. Thank you for your reply xxx

Hey, I don't have a positive outcome to give you yet, but want to jump on to hand hold as I have been going through the same thing. I had slow rising HCG, and an early scan to rule out ectopic. They were able to rule this out quite early - around 4-5 weeks. The sonographer could see a sac so they were happy with that and said once they could see something on the screen they didn't pay too much attention to slow rising hcg. This is the NHS EPU btw. I was measuring 1 week behind.

I went back yesterday exactly 2 weeks later and the baby has grown at exactly the right pace for 2 weeks and they saw a heartbeat. Although I am still 1 week behind. I am sure of my dates. Again, the sonographer said once they see a heartbeat they aren't concerned about HCG and 1 week behind is within their spread of "ovulation fluctuation".

Since I found out I was pregnant I have scoured the internet high and low looking for positive examples of scenarios where slow rising hcg had a positive outcome. They do happen, altho it is less common.

Having said that, despite the positivity from the sonographers, I am certain this will not end well. I know too much now!

Personally, I think you have made the right choice to wait the week and see what happens. Honestly, it could just be a little behind and will catch up. Fingers crossed for you.

my fingers and toes are crossed for you too 🩷. I think I maybe caught the test super early as I was testing quite a bit just due to sore breasts I swore I was pregnant again but tests kept saying not then a super faint line on a 10ml hcg early test which is when I called EPU. Can I ask was your ultrasound internal? They never done internal as said my bladder was super full and they would only see the same but I have always thought internal for super early was better they just said that couldn’t see anything yet which is what they expected but also can’t rule anything out yet classes and pregnancy of unknown location because of it. But did say no fluid or anything leaking to suggest ectopic either and everything looked healthy so to wait but then started sending doctors in to suggest I have the injection but my choice after losing 3 baby’s already in the last year I thought I will take my chances and wait 😬. I hope you are keeping well and have a good outcome sending baby dust your way 💗 xxx

Please can I join this thread as I’m currently having exactly the same thing.

Had a week of on off bleeding. Hcg was 52, the 65 then 99. Couldn’t see anything on the scan and I’m booked in to be rescanned in a week.
I just feel a bit lost, like not sure what to do (nothing is the answer!). I’m supposed to be 6 weeks and my dates are absolutely accurate (I don’t know when I ovulated but I know when we DTD).

It’s the waiting that I hate- it’s sending my mental health down the pan.

Wishing you all the best and good news
your way, but total solidarity.
I’m also sorry for your previous losses 💐💐

Edited to say- you asked about the scan, mine have been internal.

Sorry to hear you are going through the same thing 😩 it’s not nice the uncertainty and the waiting I too feel a bit lost. And with still having sickness and nausea and sore breast doesn’t help either keep drumming into myself I shouldn’t be feeling like this as preparing for the worst but at the same time hoping for good news.
sending lots of baby dust your way and pray you have the best outcome too. Please keep me updated. My next bloods are next Friday then if went up again scan be the following Monday 🙏 🩷

Yes, same to you.
Holding out zero hope this end as I had symptoms very early on which then disappeared. My next bloods and scan are next Friday. I have never been pregnant before, and was told I wouldn’t be able to naturally, so it’s all been such a rollercoaster.

I will keep positive thought for you for next Friday also 🙏🙏

OnceInABlueMoon238 · 05/07/2025 11:10

Hi. I had slow rising HCG in my pregnancy. They suspected ectopic but I did the same as you and held off for repeated bloods to see the HCG over days/possibly 1 week. Mine came back saying they hadn’t doubled but they had risen enough for a viable pregnancy. My little girl is now 8. Wishing you the best of luck.

oh no fingers and toes crossed for you 🙏🙏. I still have symptoms that are getting stronger but today I also have a slightly sore neck and shoulder at this point putting it down to the way I have been sleeping. Still spotting been bleeding for over a week now beginning of the week very heavily which has stopped. All we can do is hope and pray for a good outcome 🩷 xxx

Thank you for sharing ☺️ agree with the above, the internet is all doom and gloom so very happy to hear it worked out for some ❤️

Hi all. I'm in a VERY similar boat.

By my LMP, I would be 6+6 today. Had an internal scan on Wednesday evening (private) that was very scary and mentioned retained products of conception.

Internal scan yesterday at NHS EPU who didn't see any retained products of conception (and I hadn't had any bleeding between the two) but also didn't see any thing in my uterus.

Had bloods taken midday on Friday (progesterone was around 9, hcg was 100-something). Feels WAY too low to be viable with my dates. I've had positive tests since 23/06/2025.

Going back tomorrow for next set of bloods to see what the trend is.

I hate the uncertainty. This feels like a loss of some kind but being in limbo is heartbreaking. I'd like to be hopeful, but I think the levels are too low.

sorry to hear you are in the same boat it’s not a nice place to be 😩. I got my first positive test 19th June but no idea at all on dates because no period between that test and the miscarriage almost 6 weeks before that I suspect I ovulated late because of that which is playing havoc with knowing what hcg actually should be but the slow rise is still the concern and lots of bleeding no tissue or clots past (not my first rodeo I know what I am looking for unfortunately ) hcg still rising slowly even though bleeding has stopped. It’s not an easy road with the not knowing. Hopefully your bloods tomorrow tell you more 🙏 Every other one of my bloods were perfect except the slow rising hcg and slightly dehydrated because of the sickness 😩. I pray you have better news soon 🩷 keep us posted xxx

@Stace1990 sorry to hear your update. Thinking of you, and hope EPU call you back soon as all this waiting is just dreadful. 💐💐

feelingalittlehorse · 11/07/2025 13:42

Hi ladies, re scanned today and can’t see anything resembling a baby/ foetus/ an anything. So waiting on HCG to confirm a miscarriage.
Stupid thing is- I still look pregnant. I’m all bloated and my jeans are very tight. Hoping it will go soon as it’s not a very nice reminder.

Hope everyone else is ok xxx

Cocomandarin · 11/07/2025 15:50

Couldn’t read and run as I went through this for 5 weeks in 2022 and was hardest time ever. It didn’t turn out well for me but instinct makes you hold on it’s natural. Wishing you answers asap and sending love xxx

feelingalittlehorse · 11/07/2025 16:01

So my HCG has gone up but again, to a very low pint. So they’ve diagnosed a PUL. Going back in next week and I think they’ll offer me Methotrexate then. What a bloody nightmare.

@Stace1990 @feelingalittlehorse hi both, just wondering how these turned out? Going through the same thing and the uncertainty is so dreadful!

feelingalittlehorse · 28/03/2026 13:01

Hi @mills24293 . So sorry to hear you are going through this.
Mine actually turned out to be an ectopic and I needed surgery to remove the tube. sorry I can’t give you better news. I hope you get some answers and also lots of support during what is such a stressful time. 💐
