Two weeks behind early scan

Hi all.

Had a reassurance scan this afternoon and it’s showing as measuring at 5 weeks.

I should be 7+1 according to date of my last period. However the 5 weeks would be exactly correct for when we had sex.

positive pregnancy test yesterday, but limited symptoms.

can anyone offer any reassurance? It’s a two week wait.

Were you tracking ovulation? Some people with irregular or long cycles don’t ovulate at the “standard” time. Pregnancy is dated from your last period but that’s going by a standard 28 day (ish) cycle where you ovulate around day 14. If you have a long or irregular cycle and have only just got a positive test it’s possible you ovulated much later and are only 5 weeks. Did you test earlier in your cycle as well but get a negative?

However if you are normally very regular and tracked ovulation then measuring 5 weeks at 7 isn’t a good sign.

Sadly the only thing to do is wait and see.

Regular cycle and 27 days but pcos and not tracking ovulation so impossible to know on that front.

thanks for your response. I think I know the answer but just haven’t really processed it.

I went for what I thought was an early reassurance 8 weeks scan and was measuring 6 weeks. I'm now 15 weeks and things have been normal since then so I think I must have ovulated 2 weeks later than I thought (I wasn't tracking it). Hopefully the same for you. Good luck 🤞

I was in and out of hospital on baby no4 with hyperemis so had quite a few scans in the early days. I've tracked myself for years so thought I had all the right dates, etc. But on my first emergency scan they put me back 10 days, 2nd scan back by another 4 days and 3rd scan back by another 2 days. Have absolutely no idea why my dates were so off, but I'm sat here feeding my little boy who's about to turn 2 in 8 days ☺️

Please do not worry.
I knew the exact date baby was conceived, but hospital scan dates were a week and a half out. Told me I must have made a mistake. No possible way was I wrong with the date.
All was fine, and growth measurements then changed later on.

unfortunately, I had this experience and at 7.5 weeks I was measuring 5w5 with a weak heartbeat present. I was told to go and come back one week later. There was no heartbeat at that stage and measuring 5w5. I do hope your story turns out to be different 🙏🏻
