High BP?!

Hello

During a routine MW appointment we found I have high blood pressure. I have no history of anything like that, and I'm only 17 weeks so I was shocked. Even the midwives at the maternity unit seem surprised. They have me on meds and monitor me regularly (back in today actually).

They've mentioned that baby might be small, the placenta might stop working, giving birth early etc. I wanted a spontaneous, low intervention birth so I'm panicking now. Anyone who has had BP issues, have you gone on to have the birth you wanted? Does high BP always mean pre-e?

I had very high blood pressure during both my pregnancies. I was on medication and submitted my blood pressure reading every 3 days.
Near the end of my first pregnancy my blood pressure became so high that I was admitted for monitoring. Since everything seemed okay with the baby, they didn’t do an emergency c section, they were able to lower my blood pressure with a higher dose of medication.

I had my first baby at 39 weeks via c section (planned for other health reason)
My baby had to have 3 good blood sugar tests once she was born before she could be discharged from hospital, this was due to the medication.

My little one is completely fine and the medication didn’t impact her in any way. She wasn’t small, she was a good size.
My blood pressure returned to normal (for me) once she was born.

@Lostworlds thank you, this is such a relief! When did your high BP start?

It was spotted at 12 weeks but they dismissed it and told me to check it at home. It was spotted again at 16 weeks so I seen a gp who also dismissed it and then was properly recorded at 20 weeks.

I had high bp from I think from the second trimester. I wasn’t given any medication as it would settle after a few checks, but got sent to triage a few times. Baby also had a high heart rate. At the end of my pregnancy they did suspect preeclampsia and wanted to induce as I had protein in my urine on top of that, but after further testing determined it wasn’t preeclampsia.

BP went back to normal a couple days after giving birth! alll was fine, baby weighed 7lb 2!

That's a relief, I'm glad yours worked out too! Mine is settling with the Labetalol, those side effects though, jeeze.
