When should I have my pram delivered?

I’m 20 weeks with twins. We put a deposit down on a pram with car seats etc about 7 weeks ago. When would be too early to collect it? We are wary of leaving it too late with the risk of the twins being born early but it feels so early right now, even though we have bought some big furniture already (cots etc). We’re also worried that, even though we’ve paid the deposit to hold it, the store will have made a mistake and sold it. Hopefully this is unlikely but I’m sure you’ll agree not impossible.
We have a garage and even the nursery to store it so space isn’t an issue.
Is it too early? Am I jumping the gun? I’m also very excited about my boys coming so maybe this is clouding my judgement!

Honestly, whenever you like, totally personal choice. Why not if you've got the space to store?

We bought ours at 24weeks and it was delivered within a few days. If you have space to store it, then I wouldn't worry too much. I'd not put it in a garage though - id be too worried about dust and spiders!! 🤣🤣 Maybe leave it in the nursery? We put ours in the dining room.

Have you got your car seats sorted? Avianaut pixel pro are supposed to be the best infant carriers on the market for babies on the smaller side and they use maxi cosi adapters so attach to most travel systems (if you've gone that route).

Congrats on your twin boys!

Edit to add - gawd, it was in your first line that your pram comes with car seats. Sorry!! Trying to do too many things at once 🙈

I bought mine in a panic when I was 18 weeks pregnant because we were about to go into lockdown! Made DH come with me on a lunch hour when he should have been doing crisis communications for work, that was a very odd day 😂

Honestly, if you’re worried about ‘tempting fate’ or anything it’s all bollocks. If you want it sorted and have space for it (both of which sound to be true) then go for it!

Get it whenever suits you. If you have space for the pram and furniture I would take it just now especially if you are worrying about it not arriving on time.

With my first baby mine was due to be delivered start of January but I panicked he would be early and we wouldn't have a car seat so moved it before Christmas - turns out he was nearly two weeks late haha!

The only thing I've heard from my SIL is sometimes the warranty starts from when you pick it up so you might want to leave that as long as possible? I don't know if that's manufacturer/store dependent though.

otherwise if you've got the space and can store it safely where it won't get damp etc then it's totally up to you

breakfastdinnerandtea · 27/06/2025 08:57

Oh I never even thought about the warranty! I’ve just had a quick look and it seems as though the brand has a 4 year warranty and, to be quite honest, I feel like we’ll probably end up getting a twin stroller before that time anyway.

I think we bought ours after the 20 week scan and had it delivered a few weeks later. But my mum was superstitious and made us promise to not keep it in the house as apparently that’s bad luck. So we kept ours in the garage (not set up but the parts/box were checked). The only bit we had handy/ready was the car seat part.

So I’d get it delivered as soon as you want it so you know you have it, then depending on how superstitious you are would determine where I stored it!

hedgingmybets25 · 27/06/2025 09:32

I didn’t get mine for my twins until after 24 weeks - I’d had quite a few losses before and wanted to make it to viability week x

cherrybl0ssom5 · 27/06/2025 19:44

I got my travel system a little before 20 weeks because it was on sale. If you have the space why not?! That’ll be one thing off your list!

HelloBear765 · 27/06/2025 19:59

I bought my pram the day I hit 12 weeks, I was so excited 😂

Timeforyetanothernamechange · 28/06/2025 06:13

We got ours at about 4/5 months. Unexpectedly had to take it away on the day because it was included in a promotion weekend. I didn't want it in the house so my mum kept it at hers until nearer the time. It was handy knowing we had it, especially because baby came early, but I think the pram shop said they could deliver at fairly short notice anyway so it would have been ok by time we got home from hospital. I think they're used to people not wanting to have it at home. Also don't underestimate the size of the boxes for a travel system if you plan to store it.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 29/06/2025 18:18

Thanks all. We are going to go to the shop tomorrow and pay the rest off, so it should be delivered in a few weeks I think.
We should have plenty of room. The garage is huge and the nursery is pretty empty at the moment.

When I was having my kids in the nineties we were superstitious about having the pram in the house before the baby. It was thought not to bring good luck.

But lots of pregnant ladies seem to get their prams delivered soon after the baby being viable these days.

Do it - you’ve got the storage space and you may as well get used to baby detritus strewn around everywhere!

Congratulations to you and wish all good things for you and your family.
