No heartbeat?

I’m 6w0d today and I just had my first scan at the EPU

They said they can see the gestational sac and the yolk sac but can’t really see anything else yet,

They said maybe a hint of the start of the embryo/heartbeat as she saw a very very slight flicker but can’t tell for sure

I’ve already had 3 losses so I’m worried 😔 anyone else had no embryo/HB at early 6 weeks and had a good outcome?

I think at 6 weeks it can be too early to see the heartbeat. I tried to hold off having a scan until 8 weeks as I knew if there was no heartbeat visible yet I would panic. Can you book another scan for a couple of weeks? x

I think that’s quite normal at 6 weeks. Keeping everything crossed for you x

6 weeks is the sort of no man's land where there may be a heartbeat, there may not. My EPU only does scans from 7 weeks exactly because of this and the stress it can cause. Fingers crossed all is ok, have they booked you for another scan?

I think I’m more worried that they weren’t sure if they could see a fetal pole or not. I thought fetal pole was a sure thing at 6w - I know HB isn’t as guaranteed

My next scan is in 10 days time x

From memory, when I was pregnant the very earliest scan you could get for viability was around 7-8 weeks. I know it's a tense time, but big changes happen in those couple of weeks so you will definitely know more at your next scan.

I was 5wks 4 days with my youngest and they couldn’t even see a yolk sac or fetal pole. He’s 2 and a half now. They estimated me to be 5 weeks but was corrected back at my 12 week scan.

just those few days can make a massive difference and the baby really is tiny right now.

wishing you the best
