Mucus plug or normal pregnancy discharge 37+4

hi I’m 37+4 today and the last couple of days I’ve had so much discharge it’s literally pouring out of me when I stand up from sitting and every time I go to the toilet there is masses of it. It’s clear and stretchy, I’m wondering whether this is my plug coming away in bits or just normal increased late pregnancy discharge? I’ve had persistent lower back pain the last kind of 3/4 days and some cramping yesterday.

any advice appreciated ☺️

I would certainly call your midwife to ask them, sounds like it's definitely worth getting checked out sooner rather then later to rule anything out

Definitely contact your midwife or maternity hospital asap... All signs could suggest preterm labour as it could suggest 'leaking' of waters which can be subtle & with the niggling back pains, your body sounds like it's prepping for birth, which could potentially escalate quite rapidly!

It's also quite common for us to go into denial! 😂 (also please, don't let them dismiss your concerns! Personally I would insist on being checked out regardless)

My sister works in a maternity hospital and sadly so many things can possibly go horribly awry.

Good luck & wishing you a safe & healthy delivery 🤞🏼🙏🏻🤞🏼🫶🏼

Please keep us updated xxx

It sounds like it’s either bits of your plug, or you’re just producing an EWCM due to an increase in oestrogen. In both my pregnancies I have had my baby a week after this type of increased discharge! My DD was born at 37+4 and DS at 40+1. Both absolutely fine.

It doesn’t sound like your waters but waters smell like semen so give it a sniff if you’re unsure!

Hi all @Sprinklesandsprinkles@FlorenceB19and @heroinechicthank you all so much for your advice I’d never even thought it could potentially be waters going. I will upload a couple of pics so you can see what it’s like, these are just a couple and I have this nearly every time I wipe. I will call my maternity unit today 😊 xx

Hi MummaSoph 🤗

So we generally have 2 sets of waters & quite often one set can potentially leak over a period of time. It's highly possible this is what you're experiencing.

How did you get on today? 🤞🏼🙏🏻🤞🏼🫶🏼

Hi Mummasoph

Any updates? 🫶🏼

Hey! It did turn out to be my waters and had my healthy baby boy 2 and a half weeks early! Always get checked girls, even when they tested me they said they couldn’t see any pooling or obvious signs that it was my waters but it came back positive so it’s always worth checking. I’m currently up feeding my 3 week old, we’re both doing well 🥰🤍
