Just been referred to for a 28 week growth scan tomorrow as baby is measuring small, what happens at these? X

We ended up under fetal medicine for iugr but this was a good thing and probably saved my son's life. It's likely your baby is just small and no growth issue but if there is it's great if they find out now and can monitor xx

They might also do a Doppler which measures the blood flow through the placenta

They literally just do a scan and measure all the things they would normally. Belly circumference, head circumference, femur length etc
If they have concerns notes get passed to a doc and they discuss with you after, follow ups may include stress test monitoring, another scheduled growth scan, and worst case, options for planned c sec and steroids if baby is restricted.

For reassurance, mine was suspected ugr, but growing slowly, I refused csec and had stress tests 3x weekly, she was estimated to be 4lbs or under, she came naturally at 39weeks at 6lbs and has happily stayed on her growth line that they were concerned about. She is regular height, but a slim 8yo.
But obviously sometimes like pp has mentioned, these can save babies lives too. It's a bit of a judgement call on estimates and other indicators in
pregnancy
I'm sure all will be well regardless, and you'll be able to get through whichever option you go forward with

It's pretty much just a normal scan, I think most people end up having extra scans now for one reason or another, I had them because for the same reason as you and baby was all good! I just enjoyed having the extra scans

I was sent for a growth scan because my baby was measuring really small, I was so worried because they sent me straight there and I was seen within two hours.. when I got to the hospital, the lady who did my scan told me that they see about ten people each day that are sent for the same reason and there’s hardly ever a problem. My baby was born 8lb 13oz two weeks later. She explained that all midwives measure slightly different and if they log the measurements and they decrease by a certain percentage you’re automatically referred for a growth scan. Baby can be laid in an awkward position for them to measure properly as well. I worried myself sick driving to the hospital but I was in and out in 5 minutes! X
