Blood clot found whilst pregnant

I've been told I have a blood clot in my leg and need to take injections twice a day for the rest of my pregnancy (10 weeks left to go). My anxiety levels are absolutely through the roof of how this is going to affect my pregnancy and birth (I'm having a planned C-section). Has anyone been in the same position and can share some positive light on things for me? I'm very anxious about anything medical related, so this is a lot for me to digest right now x

Hi, I had a DVT before I was pregnant (actually caused by the pill 🙄). Although it was years before, I had to take the injections during my entire pregnancies for my two children, as it increases the risk of reoccurrence. Both my births were vaginal but if it's a planned section, they'll just get you to stop injecting a couple days before.

Hope the remainder of your pregnancy is a happy one! 🫶🏻

You’ll be absolutely fine OP. Your team will talk through what you need to do for the injections prior to your CS - it can be different advice depending on where the blood clot is and how big plus any other worries. You’ll be on a higher treatment dose right now but it might be reduced in the lead up to your CS, or you might be told just not to take the one the night before and morning of. It won’t interfere with the CS, and would be started again later in the evening after your operation, usually for another 6 weeks. The other thing is that if you feel like you’re having contractions or your waters breaking or anything prior to your CS date, just not to take your dose if due and instead call your midwife/team. The medication doesn’t cross the placenta and won’t cause any issue for baby
