37 weeks pregnant and obsessed with hand sanitiser, cleaning products

Please someone tell me this is normal
I’m pregnant with my first child and from around 36 weeks I have had an obsession with the smell of hand sanitiser, cleaning products and rubbing alcohol. Anything that smells clinically clean
I work in a surgery and could happily just sit in certain rooms all day long sniffing them…

I am slightly iron deficient but even after taking my tablets it’s not gone away

I had this when I was anaemic (before getting pregnant). Maybe get the bloods done again!

Also could just be a pregnancy quirk! A weird biological way of your body recognising you're in a high risk environment for catching germs etc.

Who knows!

I had this too, I kept sniffing firelighters! (That autocorrected to firefighters 😂 I did not sniff firemen!)

I had it through most of my second pregnancy - I was obsessed with the smell of bleach, chlorine at a swimming pool, and hand sanitizer. And also randomly the smell of a damp flannel…
I was anaemic but found that despite being put on a high dose tablets for a long time the cravings didn’t go away.

When was pregnant in 1976 I had a longing for the smell of damp soil after the rain and used to go out into the garden whilst it was raining . I also needed to smell dettol and always had a bottle on the bathroom windowsill so I could have a sneaky sniff , and my third thing was eating paper . I used to rip bits of newspaper up and chew them .
I never told anyone about these compulsions in case they thought I was mad😂 , but never had any yearnings in my previous two pregnancies so I still don’t know what was going on !

Okay thanks all feeling slightly normal
It honestly feels like a really weird addiction and I know smelling some of these things isn’t good for the baby so I feel so so so guilty but I also cannot get rid of my handbag hand santiser
also cannot stop cleaning my bathroom daily/every visit

I have heard a few people talk about sponges, I refuse to open any sponge packets as even the thought of the smell is appealing haha

hopefully passes once he is born 😂
