Induction

Any advice on induction please, recently had my 34 week consultant appointment about being induced.

This is my second induction, my first was almost 2 years ago and I was induced at 38+3. I had such a positive induction, with the pessary gel that was inserted at 10am and I started contracting not long after, I had to labour for the majority on the induction ward due to no room/midwife in the labour suite so I was unable to have medication. My waters broke naturally late in the evening, and then I was taken up just after midnight and I was 9cm so was unable for pain relief and started pushing.

I was told today they no longer use the pessary but they now use dilapan S, and now I am so worried about induction. I feel very strongly about not wanting to be put on the hormone drip and pain relief such as an epidural, from research it seems that they put you on the drip in most cases.. does anyone have any advice regarding dilapan use vs pessary experience?

at my 35 week midwife appointment she did say they should be open to discussing the use of the pessary still for me so I have my fingers crossed I will still be able to have that over the rods. But advice is welcome about both!

I think really push that you want the pessary if at all possible. I've heard Dilapan is brilliant too but it's understandable you want to stick with what you know has worked well for you!

I can relate if that helps, I dreaded induction but my last one went really well at 39+6 - 2 rounds of gel and I went the rest of the way on my own, water broke spontaneously etc. I'm being induced earlier this time so pleased to hear you managed to avoid the drip at 38+3 as that's similar to what I'll be!

I really, really hope it goes well for you ❤

I definitely will, I just feel like the dilapan is a much more rushed induction if things don’t get going immediately, which at 38 weeks is likely!

I was very pleased with my first induction and was shocked it went so well as the midwife had tried to give me a sweep a few days prior and couldn’t and when I first arrived to the induction and they checked, the midwife also said it wasn’t looking very good I only was 1cm and prepare myself for a longer process, so I was so glad it all went well!

Thank you, good luck with your induction too, what will be will be, but wishing for the least interference 😅❤️
