Hi everyone, just woke up after hearing my partner shivering in bed, he turns round tells me he has the flu. We have just found out I am pregnant ( about a month) I am terrified, I was expecting to be wary of winter time but now?!! I am upset as I suffered two mc last year and I am so stressed I am going to get ill, I didnt want to take paracetamol this time I have been extra careful, not over do exercise etc. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do or gone through this in first trimester? 😩

Aw OP, I remember the feeling. I had Covid twice in my pregnancy, during the first and second trimesters. I now have a happy and healthy 6m old!

Paracetamol is perfectly fine to take during pregnancy. Lots of cool flannels on your head/neck, lemon/honey tea will work wonders. Keep hydrated and eat as much as you can to keep up your energy levels.

Most MC's aren't from illnesses, but from foetal or placental abnormalities, being a bit ill won't do any harm 💖

I already have a 3 year old who goes to nursery so I have that risk with illness too haha

there you go! If it's not your husband giving you some gross illness, it will definitely be the 3 year old! If not now, it will come!
Relax, enjoy the summer and look forward to your baby!

Take the first defence spray. There is some scientific evidence it works and the lemsip one is suitable during pregnancy (just check with pharmacy)
I had ivf and was exposed to Covid19 sitting next to a colleague all day. I discovered this just after embryo transfer and I used the spray and didn’t get covid. In general it is safer to take paracetamol than leave a temp untreated.
I wouldn’t panic. For one thing you may have had the strain of flu before and may not develop it, or you may even catch it and not get symptoms or very mild ones compared to your partner.Wash your hands , keep your distance and tell your OH to clean toilets, sinks etc with spray bleach after use.
i don’t live in uk im in Ireland but here you can ring early pregnancy unit in local hospital for advice even before you have been seen so maybe you could do that if worried ?

Happened to us as well. His whole work team got some kind of virus while I was 6 weeks pregnant, was so sure I was gonna get it as well but I didn’t. He was locked in our bedroom for a week while I slept in the living room. I brought him tea and food and constantly washed my hands. We basically barely had any contact during his sickness. After he got better I washed the sheets and thoroughly cleaned our bedroom before sleeping there again.

I had two losses last year and I get the panic. I am pregnant again and had a bad virus possibly whooping cough so had precautionary antibiotics as well as paracetamol and rest. No lasting effects and I'm now 24 weeks. I had a fall caused by hyperemesis in one of my pregnancies I lost I hadn't been taking paracetamol as it didn't really do much but I was reassured by the nurse in a and e that it's completely safe in pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had to take it 4 times a day every day for 4-6 weeks as I recovered from injuries caused by a car accident. No impact on my daughter

Aww thank you everyone, you have made me feel a lot more positive! (In a weird way as the chance of getting ill isn't a positive thing) i had my first born during end of covid so people were more careful about going out whilst ill etc

Congratulations OP!

I can understand you’re anxious especially given your MC history. However, you will be fine.

I had pneumonia in my second pregnancy. DC is now a strapping teen.

Hi what did you take to feel better?

Hi! Honestly it was a long time ago so I’m not super sure - I didn’t take much (which wasn’t fun!) but did speak to the pharmacist and she advised what was safe to use, so that might be worth a try :)
