2 week wait for GTT results - that's not right is it?

I had a GTT today (finally, 1/2 hour over the 2 hours ) and when handing in my samples the guy said it would be about an hour for my results, same as last time. But when I went to get them a woman told me they do not give out results and I had to get them from my GP or consultant - I explained what it was, and I had got them last pregnancy after an hour or so from there but she just kept saying no. I don't see the MW for 2 weeks - is that how it's done now? Even on the (ok, it looks abit old) leaflet it says you get the results in 45 mins - 1 hour and if you need to they book you in to see someone within a week. Not really sure what to do...

Not sure if it's any different in your area, but the hospital sent me a letter within a couple of days of my GTT. I wan't expecting to find out until my midwife appointment the following week. GTT results are normally quicker than the standard blood tests they do during pregnancy.

That's bollocks. They told me if I didn't hear within 24 hours all was well. I rang the next day just to make sure and they read all the figures out to me. No reason why you shouldn't be able to phone for them next day at the latest.

PortAndLemon · 22/05/2008 18:31

They didn't give them to me this pregnancy, but when i failed they tried to phone me within 24 hours and when they couldn't get hold of me sent out a letter that I got after a few days. So I suspect if you pass the mw will tell you at your next scheduled appointment but if you fail then they'll call you within a day or so and book you in to see the diabetic nurse/dietitian.

Same here... was told that if I didn't hear anything within 24 hours by phone all was ok. No news is good news so to speak.

Hmmm...ok. Thanks. Not alot I can do about it though apart from wait.

On my maternity notes it said I was to be booked in for GTT - what is this?

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/05/2008 14:36

I got a letter a week after my GTT telling me to go to see the diabetic midwife, as I had failed mine. If they send yours to the GP LOW then I'm sure the m/w will get in touch straight away if it's bad news.

nisha - it's a glucose tolerance test for people who are at higher risk of getting gestational diabetes.

fiodyl · 23/05/2008 14:46

Like most other people on here I was told they would phone me within a few days if the result was high, if not they would be sent to my midwife to be put in my file at next routine visit.

Squarah · 27/05/2008 11:35

I'm having mine on Thursday at the antenatal unit and just call up for the result the next day. I'm sure you can call your GP and ask them to chase it anyway - or midwife.
