Hi, can anyone share any similar experiences or give me some advise please. Im 9 weeks tomorrow, and im very anxious that all is well, as its my first pregnancy!
I have been having quite a lot of brown discharge when I wipe, but it comes and goes some days there is a little or none, and other days there are lots. I went to my GP who sent me for an early scan at 7 weeks, and confirmed there was a sac and a heartbeat! They didnt explain what the discharge is.

I have been quite sick for the past 10 days, but just today, I have felt quite ok, except for my boobs which are a little sore. Do you think I should be worrying? I know I should speak to the doctors again, but I feel like i keep hasseling them, and they have been shut this afternoon. I can call tomorrow thought, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this

Thanks

hi hwebb
brown discharge is old blood known as implantation bleeding when egg is burrowing deep into womb lining, is quite common

it is great that you went for an early scan must have been reassuring

hope this is helpful

i am 6 weeks on and had brown spotting at 3 weeks before i found ount i was pregnant

I'm a first timer too (23 weeks), so I can't really comment, but can you speak to your midwife? My GP hands over all ante natal care to the community midwife. I have rung her a few times when I have been worried, and she's been fab.

Hi, i had brown bleeding for a week at 7 weeks too. Had an early scan and all was well.I am now 13 weeks. Try not too worry, as a heartbeat was seen.

Brown spotting is quite common.

helsywebb brown blood is old blood, so it could be remnants from an implantation bleed that is only coming out now. I bled brown blood from weeks 5-7, and then my discharge got lighter (but was still browny-orange) for the next week and a bit. But I'd had a scan at 7 weeks where the baby had a heartbeat and measured the correct size, after this I stopped worrying.

If you've had a scan at 7 weeks and there's a heartbeat then that's really good news! Try and wait it out. If it doesn't get any worse then you can ignore it (as hard as that is to do). If it gets heavier or is accompanied with cramps then call your doc or try and get over to the EPU and have another reassurance scan.

Good luck!

Hi had this from 13 weeks onwards, so I am not sure if mine was implantation bleeding, I was worried sick because I have had two previous miscarriages. Midwife didnt know what it was but I was always reassured after hearing the heartbeat. Anyway I'm sat here with 6mo DS on my lap.

Enough about me helseywebb, I'm sure you'll be fine and try not to worry, ring your doctor/midwife if you need reassuring.

Congratulations btw

Hi,

Just wanted to reassure that I had this both times and although there was no explanation for it the baby wasn't affected by it. Well, my first baby died but that was much later on in the pregnancy and was due to severe preeclampsia and not the early bleeding. It carried on in my second pregnancy on and off until 12 weeks and you cna imagine how scared I was already, but it was fine. About a quarter of pregnancies have some sort of bleeding and most of those are fine. It is very scary though and not what you want to see when you wipe! I hope it is all ok for you xxx

I had brown bleeding at 6 and 8 weeks... It's implantation bleeding. I have a very healthy DS now!

abbymeg · 22/05/2008 20:47

It can be breakthrough bleeding from a missed period - not uncommon - usually around the time the second period is due. I had it with first pg.

We are always told to worry if there's pain or bright red blood; if in doubt ring NHS direct for a bit of reassurance .

if a hb is seen that zooms down the risk of m/c

but agree, speak to mw

i had this with ds1 (now aged 4!) and it was blood tortuous
