2nd C-section scar and shelf?

I'm currently trying to work out if I want an ELCS after a EMCS 6 years ago.

It's vain but the thing I keep coming back to is my scar, I thought for a while after my EMCS I might have an overhang and it was upsetting, but it was OK in the end after about a year.

My EMCS scar looks ok-ish and is fairly flat. How have people found recovery and healing after a second c section?

Hey,
I found the healing similar second time round. I think knowing what to expect helped. I’ve been fortunate and don’t have any overhang but it did take around 9 months for full sensation to come back around the scar area.

Healing the same both times. I've just got a small red line beneath bikini line. I'm quite slim though

Healing second time for me was not so good despite being very slim and fit. I have a small shelf (that I hate). I would caveat it though with the fact I did have 7 children inbetween my 1st and 2nd section and nearly 20 yrs between the 2. I was 25 at the time of the first and almost 45 having my 9th child and 2nd c section.

If it helps at all (and it probably won’t, sorry!) I had an EMCS in May 2023, and my scar was beautiful! Healed flat, looked amazing, was starting to get a bit of sensation back when I got pregnant with DD2.

DD2 arrived in January 2025, had a VBAC and I’ve somehow still ended up with a bit of a shelf this time around

Sorry to say, after the first it healed quite well and flat, after the second I have a little pouch shelf thing thats never gone away. at one point I lost weight and was slimmer than before I had both children but it was still there. Its not so bad that I would ever regret having the ELCS though it was one of the best experiences of my life
