8 weeks 2 days but measuring 5 weeks 3 days??

Looking for a bit of advice(:
Going by my first day of my last period, I should be 8 weeks 3 days. I went for an early scan today (for some reassurance) and they measured me at 5 weeks 2 days! They said everything was there and I saw baby but no heartbeat): he said I could be to early and the dates are off or something more sinister. He advised that I came back in 2 weeks for a check up.
has anyone had this happen when the dates were off? I’m trying to keep positive but it’s hard):
my boobs were sooo sore for the first few weeks but I feel like they are now getting back to normal): I haven’t had any sickness or anything just soo tired..I’m slowly losing hope!
any advice would be great xxxx

I haven’t personally but how worried I would be would depend on

1. if you were tracking ovulation, if you weren’t then it’s possible you ovulated late so are earlier than you thought
2. when you got your first positive test. If you only got your first positive last week then again, you could be earlier than you thought, if you got your first positive 4 weeks ago then I’d be more worried

I would prepare for this being a loss. I had a scan when I was supposed to be 8 weeks along, and they measured it as 6 weeks. There was even a heartbeat. 4 weeks later, I miscarried.

I can't remember the exact details, but I do remember I should have measured 7 odd weeks and I measured 5 weeks. I can't remember if there was a heartbeat or not.

Anyway they told me to come back in two weeks and when I returned the sonography said they were checking viability due to concerns. I was not expecting to hear that. Anyway she scanned again and the baby had grown two weeks worth in two weeks.

To cut a long story short, he's now a lad almost as tall as me!

Stay positive and time will tell.

I got my dates wrong and was measured at 5w5 with no heartbeat. Went back at 6w4 and heart was beating. My baby’s 3 months now so was all okay for me..I do have extra long cycles though

Did you do that with the early pregnancy unit? I’m worried because it was a private scan today, they won’t see me? I’ve already had my first midwife appointment and got my 12 week scan booked for the 9th July, I just don’t think I can go that long without knowing xx

Hi OP. If you were tracking ovulation and you're sure of dates then I would be worried. I'm sorry. That's a significant difference, although, it is normal to not hear a heartbeat before 6 weeks. Hopefully you've gotten your dates wrong.

I wouldn’t say I’m tracking my ovulation but I do keep track of my periods on an app. My cycles have varied between 28-31 days (one was 34). I didn’t think I was that far along because I know when we had sex (fella works evening so I know haha) but now I don’t know if I am just trying to make excuses): xx

@Honeybee1996 I called the community midwife because at first I had a pregnancy of unknown location at a private scan as I was so early. I was then booked in to epu for a scan 3 weeks later at 6w4d but I paid for a rescan at the private place 2 weeks later as I couldn’t wait. That was when I measured 5w5 but no heartbeat.

id just give the midwife a call and explain and see if they’ll refer you..it’s worth a try? Although I had lots of cramps and pregnancy of unknown location so they see me as they thought it may be ectopic pregnancy. Not sure if they would have otherwise x

From the date of positive test it doesn’t look great. Best case scenario you first tested positive at 7dpo (very unusual) that would mean you are 7 weeks pregnant but you cannot be any less than that. Most people only get a positive later than this meaning you should be closer to 8 weeks.

@Honeybee1996 I know what you mean. I understand the excuses thing as well. I had a missed miscarriage in January. I went for a scan at 9+5 but baby was only measuring seven weeks with no heartbeat.
I agree with a pp about ringing the midwife. Give them a call and see if you can get a scan for a weeks time rather than two x

Ugh, so sorry you are going through this. I have had this but not good news. I came in for scan around the same stage as you and baby measured two weeks behind, went back a week later and baby had grown with a heartbeat but still behind. Back one week after that and baby no longer had a heartbeat. Measuring more than a week behind is concerning but in my case I was very sure of when I ovulated as I was tracking carefully.

Hopefully you have a better outcome. Unfortunately, the next couple weeks will probably be a lot of waiting to see what happens because they won't want to make a call unless they know for sure that baby isn't growing and that your dates aren't wrong.

You need to call the EPU and get them to scan you so that they have the scan on record and then go from there.

I was measuring 6 weeks with no heartbeat when I should have been 8 and it was a miscarriage. I'm very sorry if this turns out to be the same for you.
Definitely contact your midwife/epu as for me they wouldn't accept the private scan and I had to have two NHS scans a week apart before they would confirm it which I found very hard mentally when I knew what had happened.

Soo, woke up early this morning so thought I would put some information into my good ol’ friend ChatGPT😂 I ChatGPT’ed my periods over the last 6 months and turns out I have irregular periods. I asked it too tell me when I was ovulating and it turns out that I would have been most fertile between April 28-May 3 which would make sense with the dates the ultrasound gave me! I don’t know if I am clutching at straws atm but I just need something to get me through the next 2 weeks🤞

That could very well be it! Longer/irregular cycles definitely throw things off. Same has happened to a couple of girls on another thread I'm on. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Sorry op but if you ovulated and conceived around 3rd May you would be 7.5 weeks now, not 5.5. If you got your first positive test on 11th May it would be impossible to only be 5 weeks as you wouldn’t have even ovulated by then.

Agree with this sadly. In order to be 5.5 now you’d have ovulated and conceived around 18th May give or take a day. If you ovulated on 3rd May that puts you at about 7.5 weeks.
