Early scan, no heartbeat... yet?

I'm not sure why I'm posting, maybe to hear other experiences.

According to my dates I should be 6+6.
The early scan showed a GS, yolk sak & a fetal pole but no heartbeat.
5-6 weeks gestation instead of 6+6.

I'm returning in 2weeks for another scan, my anxiety levels are pretty high to say the least.

Any similar stories would be welcome.
Thank you.

Here for a hand hold.

I’m not surprised you’re anxious - obviously it would have been better if you had seen a heartbeat but I’d keep in mind that even at 6+6 a HB isn’t guaranteed and everything is so small at that point even tiny differences in measurements will make a difference to the gestation they say. There’s also not a huge gap between 5-6 and 6+6 and your ovulation dates being a day or two out and the variation in time until implantation could account for some of that too. The fact that the FP, YS and GS are there is good.

Easier to say than to do but hold tight - do what you can to keep the anxiety at bay. Whilst there are no guarantees it’s far from hopeless.

Thank you for your kind reassuring reply @AgentLisbon. I really appreciate it. I do keep trying to tell myself that the odds aren't too bad for now...Confused

Were you tracking ovulation? If not, your dates could definitely be out because they work off you ovulating day 14. When I went for my 6+1 scan I was actually 5+6. As pp said, things are so tiny, measuring is not exact.

I was scanned at 6 weeks 5 days and couldnt see a heartbeat. Then scanned again at 8 weeks and a strong heartbeat. Now 14 weeks and baby is healthy.

Can I ask why you had an early scan, such as bleeding etc? I’m just wondering if you have additional symptoms alongside the lack of heartbeat.

I had an early scan with my last DD due to a previous ectopic pregnancy. They couldn’t find the heartbeat, but it turned out to be a healthy pregnancy.

I had no heartbeat at 5’5 but did literally a few days later. I’m 18w now.

Thank you for the replies, @Wednesdayonline I wasn't tracking ovulation. I had assumed I ovulated earlier in my cycle due to a previous pregnancy. But saying that I was surprised I got pregnant this time around so definitely I could have ovulated later in my cycle.

I'm at risk of an ectopic pregnancy so no other symptoms that prompted an early scan.
Thank you for sharing.

The lady that did my scan said growth isn't linear, they can take a few days to catch up! At my 12 week scan I'd gained 5 days, even though my first scan was measuring a week behind.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

An update from me, at my return scan, baby still had no heartbeat. MMC.

Best of luck to those who are waiting on good news.

@LONpregnantandhopeful I am so so sorry. I've been there and it's devastating. It does get easier though, with time. I expect the NHS will have talked you through the options, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate. Sending you the biggest of hugs.
