Blood Thinners & Supplements

5 weeks and on a concoction of blood thinners due to APS. 4 previous miscarriages.

I am tearing my hair out in worry trying to work out which supplements are safe to take alongside the blood thinners!

Would anyone in a similar position be able to share what they take? I’d be so grateful.

Hey I have APS and I’m now 29 weeks pregnant and I haven’t thought about this
I just took pregnancy vitamins.
I would say really don’t worry

Hi @AutumnVi thank you! That’s reassuring. So difficult not to worry and overthink everything.

I’ve had consecutive miscarriages (before I got my diagnosis) and it really destroyed me 💓 I don’t even want to try again to have a baby.
Most of my pregnancy I’ve been so anxious and had panic attacks especially in the early days.
Now I’m in my third trimester and the meds are working I feel more confident it will be ok.
I got to the point I was so exhausted about worrying I just had to stop ✋
I worried about everything but for the sake of your mental health it’ll destroy you.
and google only really give you negative outcomes with regards to APS
I don’t have all the answers but many women with APS do have healthy pregnancies. X

This is so encouraging to read because I also have had recurrent issues. Only this time have they put me on APS medication and I'm really just prayerful that it works out. Thanks for sharing.

Did you do anything else differently this pregnancy that you think contributing to it being 3rd trimester or it was just the medication?

Your pharmacist would be the best person to ask.

The most problematic blood thinner for supplements is warfarin as there's a collosal list of things that can change your blood thickness and required warfarin dose. Warfarin isn't usually used in pregnancy but if you are reading about people in general having to be careful with supplements and blood thinners it's probably mostly targeting those on warfarin.

Hi @AutumnVi. I’m so sorry for your miscarriages. I’ve been there and it made me stop trying for 18 months. I couldn’t bear the thought of having another one! Mine were positives tests that always faded to negative over a few weeks. I didn’t try once I had to APS diagnosis because I was just so sad. But in December 2024 I found out I was pregnant unexpectedly. Took the blood thinners which did get me to 8 weeks but then I had a MMC. I’m pregnant again and hoping this one works out.

I also am having panic attacks. Mostly mine are manifesting as being unable to eat for fear that something I eat will damage the pregnancy. My husband tells me this is doing more harm and I know he’s right. Thank you for the advice. I’m trying to learn how to just stop and accept that I cannot control and worry about everything!

@Sunshine1621how many weeks are you? Hoping it all works out.
