Had 12wk scan today saw heartbeat measured right for dates but baby not really moving. Sure dd was moving on 1st scan. Is it possible it was just sleepy do they 'sleep' this early on? Probably being irrational but if i cant ask MN where else can i!

Hi BrightShinySun! Congratulations on your pregnancy
The baby probably was moving but you just couldn't see, as sometimes the image flickers on the screen, from what I remember in my pregnancy. At my 12 week scan I remember asking if the baby was alive, as I couldn't see the heartbeat until the sonographer pointed to it.
Try not to worry. If there was anything abnormal, I'm sure the sonographer would have said.

Thanks izzybel she seemed happy and only mentioned it to say she couldnt get a different angle for the photos but you know how the mind starts wondering!

When I had my 12 week scan the baby wasn't really doing much and I remember feeling a bit anxious when I read other people on here saying how their babies were flipping around on the screen at theirs. I'm 21 weeks now and bubs is definitely very active, so I can only assume it was having a sleepy moment or something.

If the sonographer wasn't concerned then I would say try not to worry (hard I know!!).

DS was asleep for his 12 week scan - I had to walk up and down for an hour and eat chocolate to get him to 'wake up' and move so they could take all the measurements.....

Ours wasn't moving loads at the 12 week scan it just kind of looked like it had hiccups... But apparently that's how they move at that age

Our DD appeared very sleepy at our 17-week scan and I was a bit worried, esp when comparing to other friends' scan photos! She was absolutely fine and just really likes her sleep If you have another scan (we didn't), maybe eat some chocolate beforehand as sugar is meant to stimulate them. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Mine wasn't moving at all at my 12 week scan - the consultant spent ages trying to get him/her to wake up and move into the right positition. Takes after his/her mum!

Thanks everyone. Feel a bit better,to be fair it was 8.50am and if i can help it i try not to move round much at that time of the morning so maybe it will be like its mum! Will try the chocolate thing at my 20wk scan thanks for the tip!

I had my 12-week scan last week and the baby was asleep with it's chin on it's chest. The sonographer had to keep giving it a bump to get it to wake up so it would put it's head back so she could take the measurements properly - it took her quite a while thought before it would wake up. I am hoping this is a good sign that the baby likes it's sleep

Have just been worrying about this myself this morning. I had a 10 week scan yesterday and saw the heartbeat but it wasn't until I came out I realised that I didn't actually see the baby move. I remember my 12 week scan with dd she was spinning round and round.

Also, when I read the notes when I left the sonographer had written under 'comments': neither ovary seen today.

She didn't mention this to me and I've no idea why she's commented on it- should she have seen my ovaries?

I had my 12 week scan yesterday and baby was jumping about but the sonographer told me they tend to sleep 30mins and then awake 30 mins and so on so yours was probably just in a sleep moment. Also, on the plus side for you, as mine was so awake they had real trouble getting all the measurements because it wouldn't stay still and it took ages. I dont' think you need to worry at all
