i have to be at the hospital at 8.30 for the first blood to be taken. then get to drink 100ml of lucozade or their glucose drink (i am going to buy lucozade on the way there), and then nothign except sips of water until they have done the two hour bloods.

the thing is suffer pretty bad morning sickness still and am really not looking forward to this.

if i throw up at any stage of these bloods being taken will it affect the results at all?

I don't think the results will be affected if you are sick. Good Luck, I hope it goes well.

No, I don't think the results are affected. Good call on the lucozade, their version is dire. Good luck

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2008 20:09

Yes, the results will be affected if you throw up the glucose drink I'm afraid (they don't use lucozade), and you'll have to redo the test another day.

This happened to me, and I don't even get morning sickness, so I have no idea what caused it. I passed out and then spent 3 hours throwing up. Apparently I was the illest patient they've had from a blood test, so you won't beat me!!

BroccoliSpears · 21/05/2008 20:11

They only made me fast from midnight for an 8.30 start.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2008 20:13

That was bad of them BS - should be a 12 hour fast, or you're more likely to look like you have GD even if you haven't.

misdee · 21/05/2008 21:07

CSWS, consultant registrar told me i could take in 100ml of own lucozade as long as its not the flavoured version.

wil ltry and not throw up.

Just the fasting one and then 2 hours after the glucose. Remember to take a book or puzzle to keep you entertained!

misdee · 21/05/2008 21:23

Yes. Might be worth packing a cushion too!

I'm fasting too Misdee so you have my sympathy. I think mine must be the abridged version as I take my solution at home, then go to the hospital in time for the 2 hour blood test, no mention of a fasting test first. I still have my kit from last time so i'll probably take that with me and do a quick test in the car before I go in so I know roughly where my score is.
At my hospital you get to wander around the hospital with your blood sample, and they trust you to take it to the right place and then to go back later for the results...
Also, you get to eat breakfast there after the blood test, but they only sell things like currant scones or cakes - no use at all if you're trying to get your levels on an even keel.
