Round Ligament Varicosity

Anyone here that’s experienced Round Ligament Varicosity during pregnancy? Just been diagnosed this from a Doppler scan after going to my doctor due to a painful lump on the right side of my groin. I’m only just at the beginning of my second trimester. None of my doctors have seen this before and there isn’t much information on it online…The lump on my groin is already quite painful and I’m so worried that as the baby gets bigger, the pain is going to get debilitating…
Any reassurance or management tips from someone who has gone through this? Thank you!

Things you can do . Help venous return by
1 avoiding time on your feet ,
getting your legs up high at rest
sleep in left lateral position ( on left side ) . Definitely not on your back.

Try and avoid putting on excessive weight in the next few months.
You may be able to gently reduce the lump first thing in the the morning so that it does not protrude.

You could also try hirudoid gel if the varicosity is very tender or there is overlying redness.

Thank you for this! I’m struggling to find any information or guidance about this online, so getting this message from you really helped. Did you experience this or do you know of someone who experienced this? Not to sound like a profit of doom, but I’m worried I’m going to be bed bound towards the end of this pregnancy, if it’s already uncomfortable and I’m still early on…

Wow, thank you for the message and reassurance. None of my doctors have ever seen this before, so it really helped getting this advice from a doctor online

Would you suggest a pelvic belt to help alleviate some pressure? Or ice packs to reduce swelling?

I’m 26 weeks now and still battling with this too be honest. Some days are better than others, but that usually depends on the level of activity that I do. I’m spending a lot more time in bed in the day and avoid standing or walking for long periods of time. It gets really uncomfortable and sometimes painful after periods of activity (even cleaning the house has become a challenge). I also bought compression stockings which definitely help with the swelling. It’s a long road though and has been very tough on me (as I’m quite an active person in general), but I try remind myself that the reason I’m making these sacrifices is for me baby and that my body is working hard and doing enough ❤️. How are you? How have you been managing this?
