When a baby kicks are they trying to tell you something just a thought

I mean increased or decreased movements can be a sign of distress but I don’t think otherwise they are trying to tell you something, similar to if you shuffle your legs around just to be comfy 😂

No, they are just alive and moving. They might respond to certain sounds after a certain stage though

I'm sure its not a conscious decision but a response to something they are only semi aware of. My baby used to kick more sometimes with music playing, more after sugary food (orange juice definitely wakes them up). I think towards the end some kicks were to get me to change position. Those ones were very hard 😂
