Depends how tall you are? If you're tall then you were underweight to start with and 2 stone is probably less than doctors would like you to put on. If you're short and weight the right amount for your height then 2 stone is perfect. It's only if you are obese that you should try to aim for a 1 stone gain

Most places I read (although admittedly these places are not the NHS website or NICE, they are baby magazines and websites) suggest that 25-35lbs overall is normal, but to go over that is not remotely harmful, just more hassle to lose.

Although probably if you were only 8.5 st before, you can carry some extra without looking overweight at all (unlike me...)

I don't think there is a right and a wrong - guidelines may exist but probably another reason to feel guilty if you don't fit those criteria!

I've put on a lot - stopped weighing myself at 6 months, but I reckon I'll have put on 4 stone when I'm done. That puts me in good company - Catherine Zeta Jones and Myleene Klass, and they both look ok afterwards!

mum2bsoon It's alright to put on weight I live by the 321 guide 3stone gain if slightly underweight
2stone oif avereage weight
1 stone if obese

also make sure you are eating healthily ie not toomuch high fat / sugar foods

Hey I used to be 8 and a half stone aswell, I got to 12 stone by 7 months but after that my weight gain stopped although baby was still growing fine. According to midwife he was taking from my extra weight which was why I stopped putting more on.

pigleychez · 21/05/2008 16:47

Im 32 weeks too and have gained a stone exactly so far.

Im 5.3 and my BMI was in the healthy range.

All my weight seems to be on my bump though, Im carrying all out front.

cameroonmama · 21/05/2008 19:02

Please don't worry too much, with all 3 of my dc I put on around 25 to 28 kgs and I am normally about 56kgs (not sure what it is in stones, about 9??). I had no difficulties during any of my pregnancies as a result of this weight gain and none of my babies were huge all around 8lbs. And you will be happy to know all of the weight came off after about 6 months each time.

I've stopped counting and carried on eating when I'm hungry. I've gained lots but will lose it all and more after the birth. Midwives do not weigh mums anymore, everyone is different. Chill out, eat healthy, treat yourself now and then, get regular exercise=healthy mum=healthy baba.
