How frequent was your movement at 20 weeks?

Some days I feel it almost every few hours, but some days i only feel a weak little kick once or twice. Is this normal at this stage? Do you know what point I need to start worrying if I haven't felt it for a full 24 hours?

I used to feel the odd thing during the day but most movement was in the evenings when I was relaxing. I too was concerned about how 'little' i felt so i bought a fetal doppler.....

Alternatively, if you're concerned, see your midwife who will ease your concerns.

Good Luck.

You should get 10 kicks/movements in 12 hours or phone for a check up.

biglips · 21/05/2008 09:46

same here as i once didnt feel anything for 3 days but wasnt worried about it (this is my 2nd pg). This baby is a active baby..same as my dd was.

when was you starting to feel the flutter/kicks? mine started at 18 weeks (flutter on and off) and since this week (im 23.5 weeks) i only starting to noticed the strong kicks now and again. mostly light kicks or it turning around which makes my tummy do a somersault!! i know what time to expect the kicks.

If you are concerned...ring your midwife to be sure.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant. I've been feeling movement since 15 weeks, (third baby), and now I feeling definite kicking every day throughout the day.

Jane7 - I think you should drink a sugery cold drink and lie on your left hand side for 30 minutes or so. If you still don't feel anything, contact your midwife.

biglips · 21/05/2008 09:50

yes agree with belgo....drink a cold drink to perk the baby up!

chutneymary · 21/05/2008 09:55

Er, I think the 10 kicks thing is for larger babies. Jane7 is only 20 weeks and at that stage the baby is still small and if facing the wrong way (inwards) you might not feel very much at all.

JAne, is this your first baby? I think it is harder to feel movements then as you are not quite sure what you are looking for and also you have some stomach muscles. I would give your MW a ring for reassurance but as far as I remember, you may not get a regular pattern of movements this early on. I think too that some women don't feel movements until a bit later on in 1st preg anyway so all is probably well. Give the MW a call and let her put your mind at rest.

HTH.

Chutney, yes I think so too.

I didn't feel any movement with dd until 21/22 weeks, she made up for it at around 30 weeks though!

Dd's first movements felt like a tickling sensation, certainly not like kicking.

NotABanana · 21/05/2008 10:40

Once you are getting regular movements you should get 10 in a 12 hour period.

DumbledoresGirl · 21/05/2008 10:46

When I had my first baby, 12 years ago now, I was given a tick chart. You were supposed to feel 10 movements in a 6 hour period or something like that. The point is though that the chart only started at 28 weeks as (it was said) before then, movement can be too irregular to count.

As I was an obsessional movement counter for all of my babies (but never had a kick chart after the first one) I used to take comfort from the fact that it didn't matter if it was irregular until 28 weeks.

You have ages to go yet. Try not to worry.

gillythekid · 21/05/2008 10:46

Really sporadic at that stage for me, baby is still soooo small remember, so this 10 movements a day mularkey is still another 6 weeks away for most women. Relax, my LO is 32 weeks and has quiet and not so quiet days!

kookiegoddess · 21/05/2008 11:45

I'm 20 weeks and have only had proper movements for last 1-2 weeks. I get movements at night and often when I'm on the computer but I defo wouldn't worry about movement not being regular yet. As someone pointed out on another thread, the baby is still small and could just be in a position where you can't feel its little hands/feet/knees.

pigleychez · 21/05/2008 12:01

At 20 weeks baby still has enough room to move around freely.
You wont feel every movement it makes.

Agree that i would feel most movement in the evening when relaxing.

Now im 32 weeks and baby still thinks it the size of a 20 week old doing saumersault but is rapidly running out of room!
Very uncomfortable!

belgo · 21/05/2008 12:24

Any news Jane7?

Jane7 · 21/05/2008 15:40

thanks for all these reassuring comments. it is my first baby, as you can probably tell, and i'm trying hard not to get too anxious.
what i find hard is when it has a day of moving quite a lot and i think that's how it's going to be from now, and then the next day, it's quite as a mouse.

thanks for your concern belgo, i'm due on 3rd october, is that about the same as you?
in terms of movement today, i have felt two definite kicks or nudges or something, so i should probably relax. it's just that it was so active last week and this week it seems to be sleeping all the time!

Glad you're OK Jane. Can you give the MW a call? Rest assured when the baby is bouncing on your bladder or wedging his foot under your ribs in a few weeks, you'll look back fondly. I still think there is nothing to worry about but a medical opinion would be better than that of some random woman on the internet .

Take care.

belgo · 21/05/2008 16:22

Glad you've felt a couple of movements Jane. If you continue to be worried, phone your midwife.

I'm due 7/10
