Surely I can’t feel this out of breath already?

second baby. First I had BP issues leading to pre eclampsia and this time I’ve low PAPP-A and taking aspirin since 12w.

Ive been running 4x a week but really felt it yesterday during one of my 7 minute sets (I’m doing intervals)

just to power walked to train for work for 15 mins and feel so heavy… I know I’ve still a long way to go until October!

Im also struggling to sleep- I just feel so “heavy” and short of breath

weight gain so far has only been 1kg (and that was all within the last week).

any tips on how to improve this/ my fitness? I don’t remember feeling like this with my first but my BMI is slightly higher at 27 (im a size 8-10 but the 8s are feeling tight now!!)

I went to the GP at about 24 weeks as I was feeling more breathless and tired. I suspected it could be my iron as I've had iron issues in the past, and yep my iron had dropped quite low even though I'm on iron tablets already. Might not be that but worth getting checked out. They check iron around 28 weeks usually anyway but worth seeing if it's that or something else going on!

When I was breathless in my second pregnancy it was due to needing iron tablets. Have you had recent blood tests?

You might need to look at a different form of exercise. I couldn't run at all after 6 weeks. My HR went sky high and I was so out of breath, even with healthy BP. I'd been triathlon training up to conception so not exactly unfit. I could still do proper hard swimming until 37 weeks, although my training sessions gradually got shorter. Cycling was easier than walking by 30 weeks and I kept going to reformer pilates until 37 weeks. My recovery has been good and I'm back swimming at 7 weeks PP.

I too started to get breathless around 22ish weeks, I got admitted to hospital once at 25 weeks when I was really breathless and my heart rate was super high (it reached 150 at one point!). They told me my iron was quite low, and now I’m on iron tablets and feeling so much better.

Another vote for low iron. I had the same. Heavy and breathless. I was prescribed iron tablets. I still got it on and off post partum so now take a low dose gentle iron daily as a habit. I felt better within a week or so of starting during pregnancy.

Thanks all, hadn’t intended to post and run, work has been intense today!

I need to having to sit in a cold room as the office was so hot I became even more breathless.

sounds likw you’ve all had similar so hoping it’s Iron and can be sorted with tablets- I’ll request a blood test via the midwife tomorrow. Joys!

Get your iron and ferritin checked. I'm less breathless now at 33 weeks after an iron infusion than I was at 23 weeks.
