I'm new on here, and just had to air my frustrations as no one else but my husband knows about the pregnancy yet! We went to a doctors appointment on Monday, and I honestly could not have been more put off by such a RUDE individual!! I went to move a chair back to sit next to my husband and was told 'Well don't DO that, I need to take you blood pressure!!', which was rather abrupt. He then went through a list a standard questions, no empathy, just proceedure. He started talking about us recieving our scan letter, and I interjected that we would like everything done at another hospital, as we are planning to move. Granted, the hospital is 30miles away, but we are putting our current flat up for sale and will hopefully move ASAP. This is where my family live, and if worst comes to worst, we will be able to live with them for a few weeks. As soon as I asked he said 'What on EARTH do you want to do that for' and had a grimace on his face. I explained we only have a one bed flat and want to buy a house, to which he shook his head in disgust and said he will get his secretary onto it. This whole time he didn't once look or talk to my husband, was rude and stand offish! ARGH!!! Just HAD to vent that!!

Please tell me it will be better with the midwife?? This is our first pregnancy, it may be routine to them, but it is special to us!!

That's a shame. It doesn't cost much to be friendly.

It's lovely though that you husband came to the appointment with you.

I hope you'll have a better midwife!

fryalot · 21/05/2008 08:09

as in all walks of life, some midwives are 'orrible, but ime the majority of them are lovely, kind and special.

I am sure you will have no problems with them at all, but if you do, come on here and rant about them

your doc sounds like he needs a few lessons in bedside manner!

GPs see so much misery and unhappiness that I'd have thought that they would be pleased to see a young couple excited about their first baby.

when are you due? have you looked in Antenatal clubs to see if there's one?

silverloc · 21/05/2008 08:53

I'm only 4 weeks at the moment, so it's all rather new When is it best to sign up for Antenatal? I've already got my self on the waiting list for a yoga class in three months which is good Also, I'm a teacher and I think I may have caught something off the wonderfully angels in my class, any suggestions on what to have to make you feel better if feeling ill??

stealthbear means the Antenatal clubs on mumsnet - I assume you're due januaury or february? Look in the antenatal sections of mumsnet and there may be a 'due in january' thread.

As for making yourself feel better if you are ill - you can't take any medicine at this point -the best thing to do is to rest plenty.

StealthPolarBear · 21/05/2008 08:58

sorry, i meant MN antenatal clubs
As for AN classes - sign up early (prob not this early!) for NCT/Sure Start ones. Ask your MW about NHS ones - personally I thought ours were very good but I think I'm in a minority.
When I went to see my doctor for the 1st time she said "are you taking folic acid" "yes" "have you made an appointment with the MW?" "No" (didn't know I was meant to) "Well do that then - it's a natural thing, pregnancy!"
Sorry you're feeling ill - a cold, do you think?

my gp wasn't rude or dismissive as such, and he did congratulate me, but was a bit disinterested since he hands over all ante natal care to the community midwife.
