Hello! My first pregnancy seemed so easy but this time around it’s like I have zero immune system. My son goes to nursery so as expected he brings back a lot of bugs but I seem to catch them all and they affect me so much more than anyone else. I’m often bed bound from them. Anyone else experienced something similar? Makes it so hard 😅 and to be honest I worry in case it has an affect on baby! Hopefully not though

I'm like this since December. It's been horrific ! I'm 35 weeks now and baby is fine. My Dr said then only things to worry about are a High temp / dehydration and then illnesses like chicken pox and slapped cheek.

Oh I had this with my toddler bringing everything back, I was ill most of the pregnancy. From 9 weeks until 15 weeks then 20 weeks until 32 weeks with weeks of colds, a very bad cough twice which made me bed bound and even need antibiotics once. Also a sickness bug. Then I had a bad cold again at 36.5 weeks and still had the cough from it for 3 weeks after the csection, I wish I was exaggerating. The cough did subside a lot though after the Csection, it was only very minor.

Im now 6 weeks postpartum and been healthy since then with the exception of one stomach bug with a bad night of sickness. I think it’s due to a low immune system with pregnancy and also a toddler is just infectious.

Good luck and hopefully your immune system improves.

@Blue2020oh goodness! Sounds awful, so sorry! Exactly what I’ve been going through so far! Hope you are back to your old self now re immune system! What medication did you take other than the antibiotics? Paracetamol? That’s what I’m taking when I’m desperate but also trying not to take too much! Fun times

Yes I had the same, it would take 6 weeks to shake off a cold 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did find that I caught less towards the very end of pregnancy though. Like my body knew it had to sort its self out before the baby came.

Your immune system is supposed to be much lower when you’re pregnant.

littlepeanutlove · 26/05/2025 21:09

@ToasterFuckUPyes! Absolutely wild! I really hope baby will be ok through it all

@littlepeanutlove Aw I hear ya! 21 weeks pregnant and catching everything from my 2yo. She also goes to crèche and brings home everything. Just recovering from the dreaded vomiting bug. Risk of dehydration is the only worry I think so keep drinking water. You and your baby will be fine 😊

Mumofsoontobe3 · 27/05/2025 06:46

Yes!!! I’m pregnant with DC3 (youngest is only 1, eldest 6) and I caught a sickness bug .. DC1 was down with it for an hour and fine, DH and youngest sailed through it. I had it a solid 24 hours and felt awful, bed ridden and had to phone DH home from work to come take the baby from me and pick up our eldest from school I couldn’t stop being sick! Then I ended up with a rotten cold .. again no one in my house caught it but I was floored with it and in bed for 2 days. Almost 30 weeks now and praying that’s the last of it for now!

Hessington · 27/05/2025 07:32

Yes I’ve been the same it’s been awful. Every little illness DD had I would catch and then be in bed for almost a week at a time with fevers. Hasn’t had a fever for years. How pregnant are you? I haven’t gotten ill since about 21 weeks (now 28 weeks) so I wonder if immunity improves later in pregnancy. Saying that lying here with a sore throat after my daughter and husband have been coughing and just crossing everything it stays like that rather than turning into something with a fever again

littlepeanutlove · 27/05/2025 08:01

@Irishgal1987oh sorry to hear! I guess the dehydration makes sense! Keeping fingers crossed. Hope you feel better!

@Hessingtonthank you! I’m 13 weeks! And yessss the fever thing is so strange! I never used to get fevers and now a simple cold will give me one! It’s awful! What do you take when you’re unwell?

Nothing other than paracetamol. That’s the other really frustrating thing!!

littlepeanutlove · 27/05/2025 08:38

@Hessington same! Do you ever worry if you’re taking it too regularly through the pregnancy? It’s the only thing we can take but I find myself trying to limit it and only take it when I’m really really desperate.

No I assume as long as following the 24 hour guidance (4 doses in 24 hours I think?) it’s fine. If there were any risk, even a small one, to pregnant women then it would be well advertised!
