Hey am new here and was supposed to be having a CT scan this afternoon when I got to the hospital and because am a woman of child bearing age as they put it they done a pregnancy test came back positive am wondering how accurate a nhs hospital pregnancy test is and weather it’s a actual positive test. The nurse showed me the test and had 2 lines in. I have told my husband that I will do a clear blue digital test next week but it’s so confusing. Thank you

What’s stopping you from taking a test today? It’s very rare to get a dark false positive so chances are, you are pregnant.

What’s confusing?
you have a positive pregnancy test - were you trying for a baby? Is this a surprise
you can get a pregnancy test now and do it

Mrsmarr · 24/05/2025 18:20

Yes we were trying and the second line on test wasn’t as dark as the first line I done a home test last week which was negative. Am going for a clear blue digital tomorrow to put our minds at ease. I have never had a test done at the hospital thats the confusing part and didn’t know how sensitive those were

If the hospital test was less sensitive than one you could buy, then it could risk showing as negative, it wouldn’t throw a positive result.
You had a positive test in hospital, it will be accurate which means you are pregant OP.

Not sure what's confusing. A positive test is a positive test. Even the really cheap eBay ones are pretty accurate. When was/is your period due?

Mrsmarr · 24/05/2025 19:18

I was due yesterday so only a day late and am normally like clockwork never late

Ok, so missed period, and positive test = you're pregnant.
Congratulations!
Are you taking folic acid and vitamin D?
In many areas you self refer to midwife now. Google your local hospital trust and maternity self referral, and you'll find out. Otherwise you will need to go through GP, but that's less common.

Remember the digital tests usually read number of weeks from ovulation, whereas pregnancies are actually dated from first day of last period. So you're actually about 4 weeks pregnant, as you said period was due on 22nd May, assuming a 28 day cycle or thereabouts.

Mrsmarr · 25/05/2025 23:44

The first day of my last period was the 25th sorry for the tmi but feel further along as I have a lot of symptoms this is the first time using the digital test am think at the most 5 weeks pregnant at but will find out when I get booked in with midwife and get first scan
