I'm a day overdue - anyone else similar? Feeling alternately fine and then moody and inpatient. This is my first baby, a girl, and I can't wait to meet her.

I am (possibly) not helping myself as not being very active today, not bounced on a ball, haven't eaten dates or drunk raspberry leaf tea, not harvested colostrum for days and sex is not happening thank you very much.

It would cheer me up to hear from others in the same boat 😃

I’m not quite overdue yet, will be 40W on Tuesday, with my second. I remember feeling exactly like you with my first when I was overdue.

I have also not done much today apart from lie in bed!

InALonelyWorld · 23/05/2025 16:45

I'm no longer pregnant as my DD is now 9 months old but just wanted to wish you luck and hope baby arrives soon. She was born at 41+1 and pretty much had to be forced out as nothing else worked 😅. I wonder if its a girl thing because DS's birth was a breeze.

P.S enjoy the extra rest and prep time as much as you can💐

CrowSinger · 23/05/2025 16:52

@trousersearch how far did you go in the end? I have been doing exactly that all day, lying in bed - no regrets! You're very close to DD - I hope for the sake of your friends and family you aren't as moody as me by 40+1 if you get there 😁

I ended up being induced at 40w+3, and she was born 41W….with hindsight I wish I wasn’t induced and just held on for her to come. Being my first one I was irrationally nervous that she’d a massive baby and just wanted out! I also got so fed up of people messaging asking if there were any signs of labour…which I think is so weird! I was doing everything…dates, pineapple, tea, ball, walking, clary sage etc!

I’m definitely much calmer this time around and making the most of the down time!

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 23/05/2025 17:15

Can I join your club? I’m 40+2 and have been eating dates, spicy food, & pineapple, drinking the tea, tried sex (didn’t work!), and had three sweeps but nothing’s worked.

Am scheduled for an induction on Sunday but I don’t really want it as I’d like to go into labour naturally. On the other hand, I’m bloody bored uncomfortable as hell at night (pelvic girdle pain), and just want to meet my baby!

CrowSinger · 23/05/2025 18:39

@trousersearch I will take these wise words on board. I don't even know why I feel so restless and impatient!

@InALonelyWorld Thank you!

@TheGirlInTheGreenDress Of course! I admire your dedication to getting your baby out! Wish I could summon the energy to do any of those things. I hope things start very soon for you and if not that the induction is a good experience. I've had one attempt at a sweep but apparently all she could do was "massage the cervix" as it was all clamped shut 😨

OP posts:
TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 23/05/2025 21:06

I have the feeling it will go to induction which I wish wasn’t the case. In my sweeps the midwife could only get one finger in the cervix, whereas I think it’s two that’s ideal. Oh well.

Oh it absolutely is not a girl thing. I was almost 42 weeks with my ds. Was ready for the mental by the end of it. Hoping to go a bit earlier this time !

AnotherDelphinium · 24/05/2025 07:08

Just keep repeating to yourself that baby will come when baby is ready.
The 40 week thing is literally an NHS concept! The average arrival date for a normal birth for a FTM is 41+1.
If you’re really that keen to evict baby early, I’d consider elective caesarean rather than an exhausting induction followed by caesarean.

CrowSinger · 24/05/2025 08:42

@AnotherDelphinium I didn't know 41+1 was the average - thank you, I will remember that over the coming days.

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 24/05/2025 15:13

@CrowSinger Have you found the tiredness really ramps up? I felt pretty energised until these last few days and now I’m exhausted the whole time. Baby seems to be taking all of it as he’s moving more!

CrowSinger · 24/05/2025 15:17

@TheGirlInTheGreenDress Yes, utterly pooped when I'm really not doing anything. I did go for a walk the other day and then was so exhausted I couldn't make myself get up off the sofa for a few hours!

OP posts:
TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 24/05/2025 20:31

@CrowSinger I’m moving a bit more but partly because I get really bad pelvic pain if I sit / lie down too long. I feel I’ve been very short changed by pregnancy as I’ve not got to sit around as much as I thought I would be able to! Same with the being able to eat more - I’ve been getting full so quickly so no eating for two!

2in2022twoyearson · 24/05/2025 21:06

I don't think 41+1 is quite right for average, I know it's more than 40, but more like 40+4. I listened to the midwives couldren podcast and it's very difficult to get good statistics because the later the birth the more often it's with interventions.

CrowSinger · 24/05/2025 23:08

@TheGirlInTheGreenDress I bought a ribeye steak but in the end just ate the side dish of potatoes as couldn't face it! So I know what you mean on that front. Sorry to hear about the pelvic pain 😢

OP posts:
TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 25/05/2025 01:27

@CrowSinger to be fair, it’s pretty much the only real problem I’ve had the whole pregnancy and its not as bad as it could be, eg it doesnt affect my mobility like some people have it.

CrowSinger · 25/05/2025 10:11

40+3 and still nothing. Am going to try to be more active today - give gravity a chance to work! Otherwise have a second sweep attempt on Tuesday.

OP posts:
trousersearch · 27/05/2025 20:55

@CrowSingerhow are you getting on?
I’m 40 weeks today and no signs at all. And he already had 2 sweeps which have done nothing too. I know it’s early for sweeps but I asked for them. Hopefully it’s not too long a wait!

CrowSinger · 27/05/2025 20:59

@trousersearch another sweep and...nothing! Going to be induced on Thursday. Feel good about this, like I have a plan! Have you had any signs at all?
