31 weeks diarrhea, cramps and nausea

Hey guys, I will be 31 weeks tomorrow and since the last 3-4 days I’ve been having a lot of nausea and also diarrhea. At first I thought it was morning sickness as some people do get it again in their third trimester. But it only started when the diarrhea did. I’ve vomited twice also in these last 3 days, but the nausea is really bad and I also have dizziness and I’m unable to eat anything. I feel so sick when I force myself to eat, even when I drink water or juice I feel really nauseous. Last night I was up all night, feeling like I will have diarrhea but I didn’t, I had bad cramps the type you get when you have diarrhoea. I did have diarrhoea in the early morning though and that’s when the nausea got terrible too. I called triage who told me it doesn’t seem to be an obstetric issue, they asked lots of questions, and then told me to make an appointment with my GP or call 111. So I called 111 who made me a telephone appointment with my GP, the appt is after 40 mins or so. I have so much weakness that I’m unable to do literally anything, I can’t even take care of my toddler properly and my husband is doing everything for us and my mum also is helping. I can’t even get out of bed.

I had diarrhoea again and it was black almost? Is this normal? Sorry tmi! My iron is a bit low but I’ve been too sick to take iron tablets as they make me feel worse. I’ve taken 1 this week only and that was days ago.

Are you seeing GP now, are they doing a housecall or is someone helping you get to surgery?

dreamerkr · 22/05/2025 11:04

I had my phone appointment with the GP who just sent electrolytes to the pharmacy, and then straight after that call, I went to the bathroom and it happened. I had bad diarrhoea (sorry tmi!) and it was almost black. This is scary. I asked for the GP to call back but I don’t know if he will.

I’m so scared for baby, even though I’m feeling normal movement etc but I’m so scared.

Could it be because of 1 iron tablet that I took 2 days ago?

Black feces only makes sense if your iron levels were high not low.

Have you talked thru your symptoms with midwife service? My guess is they would want to see you to make sure your blood pressure & colour & hydration levels are ok. Can you keep down water ok?

mits25 · 22/05/2025 11:08

Phone midwife for advise xx hope you are better soon xx

mits25 · 22/05/2025 11:08

If you’ve taken iron tablets it will turn your poo black xx

I called them a few hours ago, they told me to contact my gp. I will give triage another call and see what they say. I am able to keep some water down now yes

Even if it was just one iron tablet a few days ago?

Triage just told me to go to A&E, but I don’t really want to waste all day there if it’s because of the iron tablet that I took? I don’t know

Sounds like you have food poisoning?

It could be. Feels like it tbh. But my toddler had diarrhoea and vomiting too before I did, he still has diarrhoea so I might have caught it from him?

Or you’ve eaten the same thing and both have food poisoning?

Yes probably

Is there a walk in centre you can get to? Or A&E may have a minor illness service onsite. Yes it may be simple norovirus. If someone takes your blood pressure & checks your pallor & sees how alert & hydrated you are, that would be best to make sure this is actually minor self-limiting.

Keep drinking water, small amounts but steady if that settles better.

mits25 · 22/05/2025 17:20

Go to a and e and be on the safe side honestly if that’s what they’ve advised it’s best to go dx

lljkk · 24/05/2025 10:59

Today is 24th. OP, are you feeling better? xx

You don’t catch food poisoning. You’ve both either eaten the same meal and got food poisoning or you’ve both got a bug
