20wk scan side profile

Does this side profile look normal to you? I feel the lips/chin/nose look strange and I’m worried there’s something wrong😩

I replied to a thread like this recently and was going to send a link to show there are similar scan photos but then realised it's another of your threads. As I said there my 20 week scan with my last baby was similar and she's a perfectly healthy 3 year old. The lip is an area they specifically check at 20 weeks.

Please don't keep worrying on your own. If your 24 week midwife appointment is coming up mention it and you might feel better if it's a medical professional saying all is well and the sonographer would have said if any different.

It looks like they caught an image of baby at a slight angle rather than looking straight ahead, which is what you're likely comparing this to. If you take multiple photos of your side profile at slightly different angles you'd notice that your nose/lips/chin look different.

Any issues so obvious that untrained people on the internet could spot them would certainly have been spotted by a sonographer.

To be honest the photo you posted of your scan looks absolutely nothing like mine!

I agree that it looks like they snapped this at a slight angle or when baby was moving. If there was something wrong they would have flagged it to you. If it eased your mind, you can always call the antenatal clinic and tell them you're worried and seek reassurance. Alternatively if you can afford, book a private scan where you can hopefully get some clearer pictures.

Kindly OP get some help for your anxiety.

I think @JuneySunshine 's photo looks really like yours not sure why you don't. But more importantly what did the sonographer say when you told them your worries?

OP as PPs Have said, it’s likely that the baby was moving when the still was taken, or it’s an odd Angle. At every single scan I’ve ever had with my two DC, something looked ‘odd’ but they came out totally fine.

I remember doing this same thing and worrying so much! I kept thinking mine looked like it had cleft pallet. Like a pp said anything like that would be picked up. It must be where it’s blurred or baby was moving. Don’t stress about it

You’re posting about this a lot aren’t you op? I think you ought to be speaking to either your gp or your midwife about getting help for your anxiety. This can’t be very nice for you.

Its obvious you need some support/mental health help, by the way you are replying to people trying to help and the amount of times you have posted this!

If your baby had a cleft lip (cleft palate is inside the mouth), the sonographer would have most likely seen. My baby has a unilateral cleft lip (palate unaffected) and the sonographer picked it up very quickly at the 20 wk scan before being confirmed at another scan with fetal medicine doctors.

If you want extra reasurrance I would book a private scan and ask for a few photos of the face. However if your sonographer hasnt picked anything up it is most likely fine.😊

I’ve seen so many scans like this! Totally normal.

If you’re worried, you can always pay for a 3D scan in a few weeks to get a better look for yourself. But the scan looks so normal from what we can see here 😊

My scan is like this too. The baby was sticking their tongue out. It could easily be that, or just the angle.

You have to remember this is an ultrasound scan, not a photograph or even a silhouette. Sometimes things look at bit strange. If the sonographer didn't mention it then try not to worry.
