Please please help me. i’m such a worrier and i neee peace of mind. I’m currently in my first trimester, and I’ve always slept on my stomach and i keep waking up on my stomach in these past few weeks and im just worried that it can cause harm to the baby. i’ve had a misscarrige previously and im trying to be so careful about everything. Could it cause harm? and am i okay to do this?

It's completely fine in first trimester, and beyond.

Springadorable · 18/05/2025 04:29

Totally fine. Make the most of it now because soon you'll be too fat to manage! That said, it's worth trying to get used to sleeping on your left side as this is safest for the baby as your pregnancy progresses and can take a bit of getting used it.

I sometimes used to sleep on my stomach (or half on my stomach, half on my side) well into the second trimester (once the bump became a certain size it got uncomfortable). I also used to sleep on my right side more than my left, because it was too hard to break the habit of a lifetime (I did try!). Much better to sleep on your stomach or a side (even if the "wrong" side), than your back. I've been pregnant 3 times, the babies were all fine.

I had to teach myself to sleep on side when I got pregnant so I got a pregnancy pillow early on and helped that keep me from turning on my stomach.

I slept on my stomach all the way up to giving birth. If it's comfortable, you're fine.

Superscientist · 18/05/2025 09:32

I'm most comfortable on my stomach too. I slept on my stomach through most of my pregnancy with my daughter and am doing now with my second.
If you rotate your hips slightly so you are on your front for your torso and side for your hips there a bit more room for the bump

Apksbdv · 18/05/2025 09:33

It’s fine, once I had more of a bump it was no longer comfortable so naturally I stopped.

heffalumpwoozle · 18/05/2025 10:40

You will know if/ when it becomes an issue for you.

I'm now in the third trimester and I can't do it as it's too uncomfortable.

But I did it loads in the first and even into the second. I knew the baby wasn't really getting squashed. You can just tell - you will feel it and you naturally won't do it if it's not comfortable for you/ baby.

Just follow your body. If it feels OK then it is.

If you're really worried just get some pillows to prevent you doing it.

I’m 27 weeks and like to sleep sort of half stomach half side. But my baby REALLY wriggles when I’m on my stomach, I don’t think he likes it! But I’m sure he’ll come to no harm, I do tend to move once he starts going wild though.

Get a pregnancy pillow. That will stop you rolling.
