Pregnancy and pcos, measuring behind on scan

Hello all
I found out I’m pregnant a couple of weeks ago. My last period started the 9th march, which should make me around 9 weeks going off that. So with thinking I’d be around 9 weeks I went to a private scan, but I was super early and she said I was only around 4 weeks, and to come back in around 3 weeks. Is this common with pcos? I know you can ovulate later but that seems such a big gap. Obviously thinking the worst. Has this happened to anyone else and been positive?😒

Do you have regular periods?

I would try and keep that in mind - i too have PCOS and i could go months without a period so you would have no idea when you ovulated - i would book another scan in 3 - 4 weeks and then see :) try not to worry - i bet you ovulated later, fingers crossed for you!! xx

If you’re 4 weeks pregnant then you couldn’t have got a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks ago. As that would have been the date of conception.
If you found out 2 weeks ago then you’d be atleast 5.5-6 weeks now.

So if things are ok it may be that the scanning wasn’t very accurate.

But I’ll be honest otherwise it doesn’t look good. Do you know when you ovulated?

JennyMaybe · 14/05/2025 13:14

Agree with the PP that if you got a positive test 2 weeks ago you have to be at least 5-6 weeks. 4 weeks pregnant would mean you only ovulated about 2 weeks ago. It’s not great from the sounds of it but not impossible that things could be ok in a few weeks. Keep hopeful but cautious in my opinion,

daisydotss · 14/05/2025 13:19

Both pregnancies my dates have been out around 3 weeks with my LMP. (PCOS) ☺️

I had a scan at 6 weeks and they couldn’t find a yolk sack, I thought the worst but when rescanned 2 weeks later all was well. There is a reason most places don’t offer early scans, which I unfortunately discovered after two weeks of worry!

Oh gosh yes I didn’t even think that.. I got a positive 2 weeks on this coming Friday. She did say at the scan I was very early and was estimating around 4 weeks, maybe even abit earlier. I’m going to get blood tests tomorrow. But no it’s not looking good :(

😞she really couldn’t tell me much as she couldn’t see much. Just an opening in my uterus she said and put me around 4 weeks. But preparing myself for the worst x

To add- the scan was last Friday. So nearly a week ago she said I was around 4 weeks.

Yes I’m so sorry but it just isn’t adding up. I would assume the worst, start tracking ovulation and ask the dr for help if you’re worried you’re not ovulating regularly due to pcos. I’ve had friends have babies through using clomid for example. Then if you are pregnant that’s great, but if not you’ve got the ball in motion for any drs appts you may need. It’s all the time spent on ttc that’s so disheartening x

I forgot to change this post as I posted in another group, the early scan was last Friday where she said around 4 weeks, which should make me 5 on Friday potentially. My pregnancy tests have been getting so much darker since my first one too🥺But it definitely doesn’t all add up and I’m glad I should be getting answers tomorrow, ive already got a little 2 year old boy and this pregnancy wasn’t planned. So I’m quite happy with just having the one anyway especially if this ends in heartbreak! Thank you for your comments- x

Ok, so a week ago she was saying you were 4 weeks? I guess that gives it a little more leeway then. But would still have meant you would have got a positive test one week after ovulation which is unusual. I have my fingers crossed for you x

I'm 9w2d with a PCOS pregnancy, so just wanted to say hi and send sympathies. It's so tricky when you can't be sure of dates. I was getting totally convinced that this pregnancy was going to become a MMC (We had one in summer 2023), but we saw a heartbeat at a private scan on Saturday and was measuring at 8w4d, exactly where I thought I'd be. Everything crossed for us! Xx

Thank you so much. It is awful not knowing. It looks like it’s gone off my next cycle even though I didn’t have a period that month I must of still ovulated! Pcos works in such strange ways. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy Xx

I have PCOS and for DD2, it turned out I had ovulated on something like day 29! So I think it's very common. Good luck with your pregnancy!
