IVF clinic referral to EPU after seemingly normal HGC results

Hi, at 15DPO my wife got a 130HGC result then a test two days later (17DPO) a 237HGC result, we've been told by our IVF clinic doctor this means an ectopic pregnancy or non viable and that we need to go to a EPU asap. We're somewhat confused as I was original told 130 is fine but we will need to take another test to make sure it gets to above 200HGC. It did reach that but we wer have now been told this. This seems to be within the normal double in a 48-72 hr period. And the result within range of what's to be expected.

I suspect there is a lot of caution as my wife has had ongoing medical conditions which are not likely to affect the pregnancy but are relatively unknows to the IFV clinic.
We have booked the next available appointment at the EPU clinic which is Monday, it's friday now. Were still maintaining hope but that seems to be in the face of everything we have been told. It's going to be a long weekend.

That must be stressful for you both. How many embryos were implanted? Does she had a specialist for her condition?

Silly question probably but did you ask them why they changed their mind?

Just one embryo. She will have a team of specialists once the pregnancy is confirmed and care transferred.

A nurse stated the the 200 limit beforehand but the doctor stated that because it hadn't doubled in 48hrs it was non viable. We didn't speak to the doctor directly.

It won’t necessarily double every 48 hours and 15dpo is quite early. I think further monitoring would be best. I’m surprised the doctor was so doom and gloom. A non-viable pregnancy can only really be confirmed with a scan and continued hCG monitoring.

I’d seek a second opinion if it were me. I hope everything goes as well as possible and that the pregnancy is viable.

Double would be nice but it only 'needs' to increase by 70% in 48hrs.

Easier said than done but I'd try not to panic yet. You can't read anything into those sets of numbers really, they could mean an ongoing pregnancy or not. See what EPU say on Monday but they won't scan you until HCG is over 1000 so you'll probably find they just take bloods and the waiting game continues a little longer.
