Did you wait until the 12 week scan?

I have a 5 & 8 year old, and the 8 year old keeps asking why I’m always tired, ill and retching.

I’m 9 weeks, and am tempted to tell them but how horrific if there’s an issue at the 12 week scan. They would be devastated.

My scan isn’t until I’m around 13 weeks, so another month to go.

What did everyone else do?

I'd wait as long as possible, to err on the side of caution, but I suffered miscarriages and was on pregnancy sustaining meds which made me nervous to share the news with anyone except DH. At 20w I told my family and friends, 30w I told my kid.

What did you do last time?

That’s what I worry about. I’ve had 4 miscarriages in the past, but they’ve all been before 6 weeks (although that doesn’t mean anything really does it!). I know it could still happen at any stage.

My eldest was only 2.5 when I had my second, but I think I waited until after the scan.

I told my 3 year old after the 12 week scan. Think I was 13 weeks or so.
Ive had hyperemesis so she has seen me very unwell. Ive had to cancel things for her as ive been in hospital on fluids and all sorts. She kept asking why i was sick and tired and why she couldnt jump on me and stuff so I didnt want to keep hiding it from her.
She kept telling her nursery workers and family that mummy wasnt well and people were going to figure it out.
We waited as long as we could and then slowly started telling people, including our daughter.
I would have loved to have kept it quieter for linger but it wasnt easy!

Told my 7 year old after the 12 week scan, we had the NIPT test and scan at 10 weeks, but still wanted to wait. I was 40 though so erring on the side of caution

I had two miscarriages last year at 10 weeks. It was hard as I had hyperemesis in both and fatigue with both and time off sick. I just said I had a poorly tummy. She has food allergies and reflux so it was a relatable experience for her.
I'm now 19 weeks and plan to tell her after the anomaly scan next week, all being well.
We held off telling family until 16 weeks to avoid slip ups on their part. I was starting to show at this point. I had 3 or 4 days of her asking why my tummy is getting bigger but she's stopped now. I suspect she has worked it out but I don't want to confirm until we know all is ok. She will be 5 in the summer
