Subchorionic Heamatoma - 12 cm in length

Hi all,

I had my 20 week scan yesterday. Baby is growing and developing beautifully, no issues.

However, the following was spotted on the scan:

I have a subchorionic heamatoma, measuring 12cm in length and 4cm in width. The heamatoma is lying on the edge of my placenta. I've been told that this has now increased my chance of a miscarriage and or it can stunt baby's growth or end up in a premature birth. Alternatively, it can do nothing and will hopefully resolve itself.

I also have a low lying placenta which if it doesn't move, will result in a c-section.

Does anyone have any experience with the above please?

If it makes a difference, I'm 44 and the pregnancy has otherwise been problem free and I have a long history of miscarriages, 9 in the last 3 years alone. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and having a little wobble.

The hospital will monitor me more, I have another scan in 2 weeks and an open admission to my Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

Hi,
That sounds so scary at 20 weeks!
As you're well aware they can reabsorb, but obviously with the placement it's a waiting game

I also suffered with losses and bleeding through pregnancies with sch
The last few months of trying (post mc due to sch near the placenta) I was taking alpha lipoic acid (650mg)
I took this during the tww and then stopped once my period came for the months with bfn and have carried on until 13 weeks with this bfp.
I noticed it reduced the amount I bled on my period but I have also only had two episodes of literally a spot of blood (and only after doing too much) which is a vast improvement to prior.
I read a lot about it and it isn't harmful to baby, and can help reabsorb sch faster.
I also had no evidence of a sch at my 12 week scan

Perhaps this is something you can try?

I’m not quite in the same position as you but would love to hear others stories.
I’m 17 weeks and they found a hematoma couple days ago as I’ve been having brown discharge for a while. The size is 5cmx1cm and it’s covering my cervix. I got prescribed vaginal progesterone and I’ve not had any brown for 3 days now. Got my next scan on Tuesday to check baby and hematoma and hopefully get more information from my ob since I was diagnosed at the hospital and she doesn’t know about this yet.
