What happens at the first midwife appointment?

NHS just booked me my first midwife appointment at end of May after I self-referred over the weekend.

What usually happens at this appointment? And should my husband come with me?

Height, weight, blood pressure.

They'll ask about your estimated conception date, family history of any illnesses, your own health, your medications. They’ll decide what pathway you go on (depending on whether you’re a high or low risk pregnancy).

No real need for your husband to go, unless he has a really complex medical history or something.

The midwife takes a comprehensive medical and social history, will do baseline observations and blood tests and arrange your first scan. She'll also give lots of information about pregnancy and how things work in your trust.

If your partner doesn't go with you, it's helpful if you have a note of any genetic issues on his family's side. You sometimes get access to an app or questionnaire to help you before your appointment

Nattering, getting to know you, measurements & confirmations & booking in.

That appointment took ages and ages as they asked everything. No point in having DH there unless he has medical problems.
