Hi Guys! I need some advice.

Went for an early ultrasound today and they told me that there was no baby to been seen gestation sack and yolk sac happy visible and implanted at the top of my uterus.
She said I had these odd cysts around my pregnancy and that I might be suffering with a molar pregnancy? She has absolutely terrified me because according to my LMP I’m 6 weeks but the measurements she took were 5 weeks.
She took bloods for HCG and they are rather high? 15,706? I ovulated I believe around 13th-15th April? So when I calculate this it means I would be 5 weeks exactly not 6…. However I’m in a massive panic and tizz because she told me to think of the pregnancy as not viable.

Has anyone else had crazy levels of HCG early?

Hi @TheJadeReader I'm sorry to hear you've been given worrying news. I just wanted to comment because I had a partial molar pregnancy before and my heart always goes out to anyone in a similar position. Not saying it's definitely correct but a huge worry nonetheless. I really really hope she is wrong and all turns out OK. What follow up have they offered you? Have you had any type of bleeding? The waiting around is horrible and once again I hope this all comes to nothing but am thinking of you in the meantime x

Hi @remaininghopeful23
I'm sorry to hear that was the outcome for you :( it’s a terrifying thing completely and I don’t even properly understand.
I have a scan on Monday 12th and it’s really just going to drag until that point. No bleeding nothing that would signal anything to be wrong you know? Like all normal symptoms. A few cramping feelings here and there but that’s it! I’m baffled. I appreciate your response and the thoughts thank you x

@TheJadeReader It's a lot to get your head around. If it does come to it that this is molar, as far as I understand a yolk sac means it is partial molar which is usually easier managed than complete. I'm sure you don't even want to go there yet. I found some support here on MN when it happened so do reach out with any questions along the way if you do feel up to it. I had some bleeding more like dark brown clots, really tiny but seemingly that's a sign. Glad you haven't experienced anything untoward yet. And good that you have a scan on the 12th, it can't come around quickly enough I'm sure x

chocaholic33 · 06/05/2025 18:40

Aww I hope everything is ok! I don’t know much about molar pregnancies but my dates from LMP make me 6+1 today, I went for a private scan and she said I’m measuring 5+5 but that it’s about right as my cycle is usually 30-31 days. We could only see the gestational sac and yolk sac so have booked back in for next Friday to rescan. I’m trying not to worry as I had the same with my previous pregnancy and went back 2 weeks later where the healthy foetus and heartbeat was clear. Try keep busy and distracted until your scan next week as best as you can do xx

Kermit2401 · 06/05/2025 20:14

I had a similar experience. I had an early scan and they were not able to see much but noted that there was a growth next to the developing sac. My HCG levels were off the charts and it turned out that I suffered from vanishing twin syndrome. The growth they could see next to the yolk sac was another undeveloped baby. They told me I may bleed..I may loose both or my body may reabsorbed the cells. The growth continued to grow alongside my daughter for about 9 weeks when it then started to shrink and disappear and I went on to have a healthy little girl. We were prepared for worst case scenario and the few weeks between scans was torture...look after yourself xz

Lorddenning1 · 06/05/2025 20:35

I experienced a partial molar pregnancy, but we only found out at our 12 week scan, our baby measured 6 weeks and 5 days. I have my picture of you want me to upload, it’s ok if you don’t. Our picture is a bit different from yours but my uterus was a lot bigger as it continued to grow as if I was 12 weeks pregnant.

Welshmonster · 06/05/2025 20:57

Try not to stress as unless you are actively miscarrying then you are still pregnant. The early days and waiting are so tough

SnakebitesandSambucas · 06/05/2025 21:14

Was this at a private clinic or a NHS early pregnancy unit? Just make sure as some of the private companies arent the most reputable and can give very inaccurate readings. Wishing you all the best x

ArtieMum · 06/05/2025 21:15

I think early pregnancy is hard to date exactly. I had a bleed at what I thought was 9 weeks, scan showed I was just over 6 weeks. When it came round to the 12 week scan, I was 14 weeks!! I then gave birth at 36+4 to a 7lb 3oz baby who is turning 5 next month. A similar thing happened in my first pregnancy in early 2000s too, that baby is turning 24 next month. All my early scans were NHS.

Frugalgal · 06/05/2025 21:17

I had a private scan at 5-6 weeks and there was nothing visible, as there was no heartbeat the doctor referred me to the hospital..There was talk of molar pregnancy which I'd not really heard of. Anyway a week later I had a scan and there was the heartbeat. As I was sat outside in the waiting room the same doctor walked pasted, smiled at me then came back with the cheque I'd given him for the private scan and handed it back to me. He obviously thought there was no baby, but he was wrong and the result is upstairs doing his GCSE revision (allegedly) as we speak.

Try not to panic , you won't really know anything for another week or so.
Best of luck!

sianiblews · 06/05/2025 22:24

I had an early scan about 5 weeks where no heartbeat or baby were visible. The doctor actually said ‘well congratulations for now…’

I had a healthy pregnancy and baby girl.
I know the next few days will drag along but I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Emmyweez · 06/05/2025 22:56

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been given this news and left in limbo land until you’re next scan. I had a complete molar over 12 years ago and had hoped that advice and support at point of diagnosis would have improved since then. What I would say is that 5 weeks is incredible early to get real definite from a scan I had an 8 week scan (early scan) for my pregnancy after my molar - they informed me at the time that this was best number of weeks to get a full clear picture of what was happening. Hopefully your next scan will provide a clearer picture of what’s going on for you.
I know that is of no comfort to ask you not to worry but my molar was discovered at 12 weeks, much later then you are now and as someone else mentioned I had signs of a miscarriage. The scan pictures clearly showed it as well.

I did receive excellent care following my diagnosis and wonderful support for my next pregnancy.

TheJadeReader · 06/05/2025 23:02

im sorry guys I’m unable to respond to you all individually as I’m a bit dumb with this website and don’t know what I’m doing but I will update you in due course and I want to say thank you to absolutely everyone for your kind words and support it makes me feel so loved and seen. I’m resting and taking care of myself as best I can and not letting the panic completely overwhelm me and remaining as positive as I can.

If anyone wants to message me directly please feel free to do so :) <3

That's not true, I had 4 and didn't actively miscarry any, I saw heartbeats with all of them, my last was a partial molar

Until it’s properly confirmed you are still pregnant and can have hope. Otherwise you just worry and that’s not great either. I choose to believe it’s all ok until I actually hear the words or know I’ve miscarried. Otherwise you just don’t enjoy it. I am trying to enjoy the little time I have with being pregnant rather than fill up on negative energy.

KaidensMum12 · 07/05/2025 09:02

sorry to hear this. I had a complete molar pregnancy about 15 years ago now I was only 18 at the time. I found out when I had my 12 week scan. It was all a blur really. I had an operation the next day to remove the tissue. They then had to keep checking my HCG levels every other day after the operation as they were extremely high and weren’t coming down much as they expected them too. They then told me I had something called an invasive mole disease which meant the molar tissue left behind continued to grow and had become cancerous. I was referred to Charing Cross hospital and had chemotherapy for 12 weeks. This isn’t a message to scare you but just wanted to let you know I have been through it and if you have any questions I’m happy to answer them. I have gone on 2 have 2 healthy children who are 9 and 5. Look after yourself and try not to worry. X

That's good to hear....did they say anything about the cysts? Are they continuing the early scans?

Hi! Yeah so I am having scans all the way up to my dating scans. And probably another after just to keep me reassured! I have another scan Tuesday 27th and will update once again with another picture :)

the cysts seem to have reduced massively insize and they expect me to have them gone completely by this Tuesday scan :)
