5 weeks pregnant symptoms?

What were some of your more unusual symptoms at 5 weeks pregnant? Or did you feel any atall?

I am producing tiny droplets of liquid from one breast and also have a cold from hell that I cannot shift.

Other than that and feeling fatigued I feels quite normal. Anyone else?

Hiya - made the exact same post as you! I have had a headache since yesterday and feeling 'ill'. No temperature but it's like my body is aching and just have that funny ill feeling. Sorry I know that's not a great explanation! X

Bella321 · 05/05/2025 23:00

Interesting, thanks for your response. Sorry I didnt find your post, I'm still learning to navigate this site. I was having alot of headaches last week but they seem to have subsided for now thankfully. I hope yours do too. I understand.d what yoh mean about that general unwell feeling.

I have noticed my appetite is down a little bit which I'd have expected to be the opposite.

And Interestingly I wear a smart watch and my pulse has been consistely 85+ at rest when I'm usually more like 65. Not sure if that's related to my illness or the pregnancy.

Nice to have a place to say it all, my partner and I are still processing our happy suprise so I don't want to be constantly overwhelming him with my over analysing every symptom.

I have woken up this morning and the headache has gone but the ill feeling is still there. All I want to do is lie in bed all day!

My appetite hasn't changed to be honest - in my first pregnancy (7 years ago) I had absolutely no symptoms apart from my belly! My heart rate was the first thing that gave it away that I was pregnant as it was over 100 whilst just sitting!

I hope you have a calm job so you can relax a little?

Definitely! After having secondary infertility and lots of IVF rounds - me and my husband don't talk about it all and just take each day as it comes x

Bella321 · 06/05/2025 07:48

I'm totally with you there! Just want to lay in bed too! Glad your headache has gone now. That's a good start. Hope your energy picks up and you start to feel better.

My work is not that calm as I work in childcare, but hopefully I'll get some quieter moments. I'm on until 6 pm today too so not looking forward to that. I'd sometimes have an energy drink if I felt like this but that's out for the question so just have to plug on.

How early do you think I should tell my employer? Of course in general I am not going to share the news until 12 weeks, but do you think I should tell employer before that? Maybe after my first appointment? As we are allowed paid leave for appointments but how can that be enforced if they are not aware yet?

Also I just wanted to say congratulations! It sound like you've had a tough journey getting to this point and I wish you all the best with your pregnancy.

@Bella321 I also work in childcare (nursery) and as soon as we tell work then we are put on fully paid leave. (I'm not in the UK though!)

Due to certain childhood illnesses, physical work and handling of chemicals it's "safer" for them to send us home for the duration of pregnancy, and for us.

I'd tell them asap in case they need to do a specific risk assessment

Bella321 · 06/05/2025 08:58

Oh wow! No from what I undestand we don't get time off until baby is born then it's 90%pay for 6 weeks and around £160 a week from after that until 9 months. Then we can take another couple fo months unpaid. What country are you in?

OP posts:
Uphighseesky · 06/05/2025 09:06

Germany. Yep it's a very nice perk! We get full pay until 2 months after the birth and then 10 months at 67% of the net salary. At that point we can return to work or take a further 2 years unpaid with our job waiting for us.

Take care then with lifting little ones and wearing gloves for changing and cleaning!

aaaarti · 06/05/2025 11:12

@Uphighseesky That is amazing - we should all go to Germany!!

@Bella321 I work in a school nursery so I'm glad I get the holidays and and early finish. With my previous pregnancy I was in a private nursery and told my manager at 12 weeks but if you tell them early it's good as you don't want to be around certain kids illnesses. ..Thank you! Congrats to you too! I just really hope this little one sticks around! X

Bella321 · 06/05/2025 13:00

Yes, the only cleaning products are mild general household antibacterial sprays so that should be ok. It's more as you say the lifting and coming into contact with illnesses.

@Uphighseesky That is amazing. I wish I were in Germany too!

@aaaarti I really hope it all works out for you! Sounds like you're on track so far.

@Bella321 How have you been feeling today?

I couldn't finish my dinner - I feel like I'm eating little but often and still have that ill feeling! Gets worse as the day goes on..

Bella321 · 07/05/2025 06:35

@aaaarti I had a really tiring day. With being ill at the same time as pregnant everyone was telling me how 'tired' looked.

I am the same as you with the reduced appetite. I ate less than I usually would for lunch and forced my way through dinner to try to make up for it. Then ended up having stomach cramps later in the evening and feeling so anxious that something was wrong. I had to go to sleep to try and switch off from the worry. Everything seems OK though 🤞.

I feel like eating little and often would be better for me too but I am not able to at work really as I just have the one hour long break. I really hope this feeling isn't foreshadowing morning sickness as there is no way I'd beable to keep my pregnancy private and I'm not ready to share yet.

How has your sleep been? I've been going between crashing out completely exhausted and then waking up at 4 or 5 unable to get back to sleep and being awake really late just processing this big change in life and then struggling to get up the next day.

I hope your ill feeling settles a bit for you.

@Bella321 oh no! Is there any way you can be off sick for a few days?
Has your appetite been better today? I feel as it it's different everyday!

Completely understand the anxiety! This evening I'm really struggling - I had cramps and now I keep going to the loo to check 😭

My sleep has been okay but I'm getting a lot of night sweats! So I keep waking up from that. What time do you end up going to sleep?

Bella321 · 07/05/2025 20:49

@aaaarti Not really able to take off sick as it would be unpaid and also we are so short at work this week. I'm off next week for a few days on a holiday but have action packed schedule for it. Really hope I'm better, but going either way.

My appetite has been the same, less than usual and if I force too much I feel crampy and bloated. I feel like I'm eating very slowly too, but getting enough in overall.

Oh I'm so sorry that you have that fear too. I hope it's just part of normal things moving around and stretching. That's what I was reading last night to try to feel better but it's still very hard to not have the worst come to mind when you feel it.

Last night was a crash out exhausted but wake up at 4.30 am kind of night. So much fun. Hopefully tonight will be the same start but staying asleep this time. I am not the best sleeper at the best of times though.
